Hi guys.
I have a SC question hope someone can answer.
I bought a DSR 505HD and 75E dish from kusat, althought I think it might
be a DSR 505a HD.
Dish set at - sat b el 30, az 228, and skew at 125, for Phila. PA.
as per Global-CM web site. Does the receiver need a signal to show
set up screen on monitor. Powered receiver, orange lights on right
scan for ten seconds and no responce, no setup screen.
I removed power for hard reset, also no signal on satfinder meter.
Move dish to scan but nothing. Could receiver be defective,
maybe quab lnbf? Cables all new. Any answer would help.

turn the receiver to channel 284 and then hit options 6-0-5 and right arrow to Diagnostic C

In the right hand corner is a number that is + -
when you aim the dish, once you hit a signal (any signal) the number starts changing and will be a +

+5 is pretty much minimum
+7.5 or higher is good

ALso the satellite light on the unit will turn green when you get a signal

will the video output signal always go thru the rf or could it have switch to
svideo, componet, or dvi? only getting black display on monitor.

All outputs should work with exception to the DVI. The DVI will come with a software upgrade.

Yes, without signal, you sould be able to access the menus. If you are getting a black screen, press options to see if the menus appear.

Disconnecot the sat in and see if it will boot up...sometimes, the LNB pulls too much power from the receiver; at least with Dish receivers this will happen.

It's probably a bad receiver:(

thanks. I think its defective also. I hope kusat does not make big deal out
of returning this unit. NFL ST. only four weeks away. Thanks to all the replys.

KUSAT did not make a big deal when I wanted to swap my 530. The only bad thing was that I had to pay for shipping to return it via mail and pay for shipping for the new receiver via UPS, which, in the end, is more than mail because of the brokering fees.

Maybe, you can get him to authorize the new one before he ships it. That way you'll know it works OK.

Well Kusat is sending a new unit dsr505hd to day. They were amazed that the
unit was DOA (there words),it will be a dsr 505hd not 505a. Maybe I'll have
NFL ST. in time anyway.

What's the difference between the DSR505HD and the 505A?

They really shouldn't be that surprised about the unit being bad, the first one I received had been knocked around by UPS or US Customs(take your pick) so badly that a heatsink had been knocked loose and was rattling around inside the unit until I plucked it out.

They are pretty good people to work with though.

From what i've read, the 505a's are Voom systems units that are reflashed and
refurbished with SC software.
