After moving Directv will be installing on Monday a new in dish and hooking up our two DVR's and adding an additional DVR ( Total of three DVR's)
I read that they can install a SWM dish and use a single cable for each DVR. Is that accurate? Will I need to tell the installer that I want this or is it automatically done when there are a certain number of tuners?

Also, is a phone line required for each DVR? Do the software updates come over the phone line or from the satellite?

The house is brand new and has cables for cable TV pre-installed.

Thanks.

As a mover a SWM will not be included on the workorder. You may be able to talk them into it, but they are probably going to want you to pay for it. I have heard in areas that techs are allowed to use SWM when ever they want. So you may just have to wait and see what the tech shows up with.

Best bet to get the newest software updates is to have your boxes hooked up to phone lines. You won't be able to order PPV from the receivers also.

See what the tech shows up with to install. If he doesn't have SWM, or isn't able to "just put in what he wants", then reschedule it. Order your own gear and have the tech show up and install it, or order it through directv.

most techs are suppose to carry SWiM. after Oct 13-14th. SWiM is mandatory on new installs.

you can ask the tech if hes got it, most likely he will have it. i dunno why they wouldnt.

Ive already started installing SWiM as they will be mandatory anyways.

Nope, neither. It's a mover install.

AGAIN... you can do a SWiM.

okay to CLEAR this up... Upgrade, New Install, Former Install (mover's Connect) you can do SWiM regardless after OCT 14th. Ive been doing it no matter what now. Its gonna be mandatory.

[edit] i should mention one of my WO i had today ( I had 4 today) one was a service call, one was a Former and two New Installs. I did all SWiMs on all installs and that is including the Former Install. [/edit]

You make it quite clear, you work for Directv. Other parts, people don't get SWM in the same manner as you.

Around here, what you say would get your ass fired. SO, again SWM is not to be installed on a mover's connect, and is not that way until as you say the 14th. and even so I doubt the change around here will be that quick. ;)

So, for the OP he problably won't get SWM, but should check with the tech in his area.

would get my ass fired? i c. well i guess i should ignore my Team Leader and tell me to go ahead and install no matter what the WO is. funny that my work order i had today was a Former Install had a KaKu3 SWM and two of my New Installs didnt and i changed it to SWM.

im not here to argue with you.. im saying he can ask if the tech's got it, if he does, he can call in for a SWiM and get it changed.

simple. :D ;)

Clearly you don't make anything up. Yet this post you say one thing but the other one clearly says another. here you say it already had it on a former install, and yet int he other post you copied it says nothing but KaKu3. no swm

Change it how you want, but until the 14th, nothing has changed.

uh that was a YESTERDAY and DAY before WO. after talking to one of the WO changed person..
that was a UPGRADE an since the customer didnt want any more cables ran through.. i got the SWM WO changed.

and THAT being said... what did that have to do with THIS thread?

Like everyone else said.. HE can ASK the TECH if he has one and if he does.. ASK him if he can install it..... am i wrong?

back to the thread and quit hijacking it.

i stated he can get it if he wants...

here you are saying he can get a SWiM if the tech would have it.. if not reschedule and then get it ordered.

im confused... its not allowed on a Mover's Connect?

Yes sir, i will get back on topic SIR YES SIR.

give me a break.

clearly you dont even look at your own works orders. a mover's former install that clearly says kaku3, that YOU changed on your own, to swm as you stated.

You are giving this guy false information, saying they are mandatory on his type of install, as they are not. That's what this has to do with this topic.

I thought all you Directv techs were supertechs who did everything perfect and by the book, what gives? Clearly, HSP techs aren't in your class are we?

Never said it wasn't "allowed". Don't twist my words. On a mover's connect it won't come in with SWM on the workorder, that's is typical.

But, there is a place called ebay, and you can buy things on websites, and you can have installers install these things....

okay....

what month are we in? how many days is it before we mandate SWiM? very dang close. Just like how we started doing Slimline 5LNB in a 2 dish market on even a one box SD reciever that isnt gonna get HD channels off a HD satellite dish... we still go back and have to swap tht box out, and if they arent recieving Spanish channels, we have to wait for a service call, then swap the 5LNB to a 3LNB.

im done arguing w you ...

yes DonnyBoy, if hes got it, ask for it. if youre lucky, congrad! less holes and one cable system!

Question, what is going to happen after October 14th, if you have a customer with non-SWM compatible receivers? Does D* replace them?

not neccessarily, depends on if they are doing an upgrade or if its a service call.

most likely from new installs on out and upgrades that havent had a HDDVRs yet..

and ive had them on Former Installs so i dunno. if they still using D-12s... alot of the times, the CSR will upgrade them to a HD reciever to swap out a SD reciever.

I know i had a HD DVR and a HD and a D11 standard. the D11 went out and i asked for another standard, they mailed me a HD. :shrugs:

Well thats funny because I was told flat out today on a Former Install " No Way Could I use a SWM" Customer was so pissed he drove 30 min. to his old house to get his LNB and switch from his old house. Lucky it was on a pole so he could get to it.

I still have not been able to get verification that this Oct.14 thing is even real yet. I wont be suprised that they keep sending us SLS5 ODU orders untill they are all used up.

So for all customers reading this thread. Don't assume that you will get a SWM install. If you don't order more than 4 tuners don't expect SWM. If you are a movers connection don't expect SWM. Even if you are a new install with more than 4 tuners don't expect a SWM install, we don't get enough D12's to do SWM most of the time.

Side note: Just got in 12 KA/KU dish packs. I got 11 SLS5 and one SWM. :(
