Tap brings up right click menu

I bought a new HP pavilion g7 laptop. Although I've traditionally been a button guy I've decided to tap to click. Oddly enough about half the time I click I get the menu on the screen as though I've right clicked. There are a lot of smart people here. Can any of you guys give me specific instructions on how to make this stop? I have gone into the mouse settings and haven't been able to find anything useful yet.

Are you tapping near the lower right of the touch pad?

Not necessarily. It has happened when clicking in the upper left.
