Tegna Dispute - how much longer?!

We have the antenna, the cable, and couplers, but were unable to scan for channels, so I wondered if our pausing the service caused them to block any signal. I really appreciate info!
No, they don't have any way to do that. However, the TV signals will not pass through the Dish equipment, paused or active. I think there may be some misunderstanding here about what is wired where and how. It's not related to your account being paused.

Bypass all splitters and other equipment between the TV and the antenna with barrel connectors (with the possible exception of a pre amp you may have near the antenna). You probably have a diplexer in the line.

Did you find it difficult to hook up OTA antenna after cancelling Dish? My husband and I cannot find a signal...do they deactivate the box on the house where the coax comes in?
I had already had my ota installed on my hopper using the ota dongle. When I called in to cancel they turned off the satellite channels completely ,put the ota can still be added and taken away and I can run scans for new channels. It operated just like it did except only for ota. They shouldn't do anything at your house unless you have to send back an lnb. Then you won't be able to use it for much of anything with out it being able to lock on the satellites.

From today's Buffalo News re: a possible TEGNA dispute with Verizon FIOS.

Oh, no. WGRZ-TV, the NBC affiliate that is already is off Dish because of a contract dispute between the station’s TV owner, Tegna, and the satellite provider, is in jeopardy of losing more potential viewers.
Verizon has sent a notice to Fios subscribers saying it is “working hard to come to a fair agreement with Tegna, the owner of WGRZ NBC (502 HD / 2 SD) before our current agreement expires at 5 p.m. on December 31, 2021. However, Tegna has proposed unreasonable price increases, starting with close to a 50% increase. In the past year, Tegna removed their stations from other video providers who would not agree to unreasonable price increases. Tegna may do the same with Fios.

“Verizon remains committed to giving customers the ability to watch these TV channels but simply cannot agree to Tegna's demands for such unreasonable price increases.”

A provider is required to tell its subscribers of a potential loss of a station when a contract is close to running out.

That should be easy to see if it is disconnected....Did you scan for your channels?

This has gone beyond RIDICULOUS now. Could not watch the Cowboys this week. I have my antenna pointed to get my local news but guess need to turn it to channel 10 in Ardmore OK. There really not much on ABC I want to watch so been just waiting. Last time I moved back home for service they did not change my channels back so I don't want to mess with it now. No more moving. Still can't believe our local networks are still 2.0 audio!

Gotta say Dish must be feeling the heat over Tegna. I called to cancel due to price increase and loss of Tegna (it's been 3 months & I feel I've given Dish plenty of time to get it worked out). Ended up staying for another month because they offered me half off for this month. Feb 10/11 I will call back & cancel if it's not back or I don't get offered another discount. (I don't have option for OTA so I have to pay for Peacock to get NBC).

This one is a real stumper. I don't remember a dispute lasting this long; the former Tribune channels ~3 years ago lasted 2 months, including the MLB all star game. The super bowl will be broadcast on NBC this year, so it doesn't affect me as Tegna owns the CBS station here, but it sounds like they are a mix. I can't imagine the NFL wanting anyone to miss the SB at the new SoFi stadium; but at this point, one never knows.

It really doesn't matter what the NFL wants. Heck, Tegna NBC stations probably don't want anyone to miss the SB. It's not as easy as what some entity "wants".

Disputes have lasted longer. I lost my ABC affiliate for 6 months last year.

No way I'd be that patient, I'm still here only because they offered half off this month, if that doesn't continue (& I doubt if it will) I'm gone. I really dislike having to use Peacock, it's not always clear what is a new episode without digging into the menu. They need to update their software to make it more user friendly.

We have lost NBC and my antenna is marginal when it rains (in Portland, HA). The peacock interface, well it's worse than Dish on Demand. Cumbersome and slow on our LG OLED and on an Sammy tablet. Greed, nothing but greed.

Well at least you can sometimes use an antenna, eastern Oregon pretty much needs to be streaming, satellite or Spectrum - OTA just isn't reliable due to weather/mountains. Peacock streams perfectly on my Chromecast with Google TV, I just hate the interface.

I discovered (by accident) the NFL Playoff games, yesterday and today at leasrt, are on Nick, channel 170. And possibly Amazon Prime.

Depending on how long this would go, Tegna would have even less leverage.

I don’t think I will ever fully understand why radio stations can be broadcast over the internet; yet not TV?

I know it is about the retransmission agreements, etc, but why didn’t those same agreements apply to radio?

Yes...as I sit here watching the CBS NFL Playoff game between SF & Dallas on Amazon Prime (with great PQ), not sure what Tegna is hoping to gain, at least from me. They've just convinced me that there's nothing other than sports on CBS that I have to have, and there are other avenues for that.

I feel for those without their NBC stations, with the Super Bowl & Olympics coming up.
