Terrible call to DiSH

So why don't you want to just upgrade to the latest Hopper 3? I have had one for over 3 years and it has had no problems.
The only times iv'e heard of people having issues with the hoppers is when there's more than one and there network connected so they can see eachother then they start having conflicts with each other.. a few updates here and there but those have gotten better over time as well

One of my 722k's is flaking out, intermittently freezing and restarting, so I called in to get it swapped out. The rep said that my system is "obsolete" and that I should upgrade to Hopper. After making clear I want no Hopper, she said she had "sent her strong signal" to my ailing receiver. I told her that I had already checked signal levels and they were good. She then asked me to unplug it, and I asked why, given that it's currently running fine, and this has been of no help previously. She then said that as long as currently working she couldn't proceed any further. So I asked her to clarify that support could not proceed until it fails again, and she affirmed. So I asked to be given to Tech Support. She stated that she was TS, so I asked for supervisor. After a long hold in utter silence with no indication the call was even still connected (I actually thought they'd hung up) a guy comes on to pick things up. He said that the 722's obsolete but that without doing Hopper it could possibly be swapped out for a Wally but there'd be no 2nd user or DVR.

I was beginning to think he was going to stick to his guns on that but then he started in with some other stuff including that my bad receiver is only 720p. I retorted that I know that's incorrect and that the 722 is 1080i HDTV. He also stated that it's 19 years old (not) and they don't have any. I told him that I know it's not still being produced and don't expect a new replacement, but rather to receive a refurbished unit and I'll send this here one back. He then consented to sending a refurb and told me that they won't be needing mine back.

At least I didn't have to go to my last card, the "c" word. This took me straight back to my dealering days!
Your system IS obsolete, 722s came out in 2007, most channels still broadcast in 720 despite whatever receiver you have, The Hopper system debuted 13 years ago. Our office hasn't had VIP (722 and the like) receivers for several years, now. If you manage to get a replacement - it won't last long. Wallys are terrible. Aside from all that, a "freezing and rebooting" receiver isn't necessarily a bad receiver. There are other components that should be checked first, like the coax, barrels, diplexer, or the port on your lnb that feeds that particular 722. If something is causing an intermittent flow of voltage to the dish, your receiver will freeze and reboot. The people who answer the phones at Dish have no idea about these things, as they have never even seen a dish receiver. You need a good technician.

But I've heard a lot of griping about hopper. Does it require a talk-back link to DiSH?

Also I'm highly unimpressed with the remotes they've put out for those.

Oh, I see from other thread the older ones will work with...interstin
Any product, any company, literally everything... if you search online, you will find the minority complainers. For every person who complains, there are tens of thousands who never have an issue. The remotes are fantastic, but there's a new 60 remote for old people.

I have a remote for old people like myself. It's called a 21.1. I only use the 45.0 remotes that came with the hopper and joeys for the rare occasion I need it. It was really easy to get both to work together.
Pair this DISH!!

All I can say is that on attempting to help someone out with his tv and he had the 54, I was dumbfounded at what I saw as a regression in both user-friendliness and simply build quality. Compared to the "classic" 20s I found it cryptic just to navigate menu screens and the like, and it appeared prone to losing some of its pushbuttons.

Remember when a TV had satellite built into it rather than streaming?

I never had issues with my two Hopper setup having conflict issues. Both my prior HWSs and presently my Hopper 3s were connected so they can see each other.
