Well, Hopper 3, like the label says.
The reason the Hopper 2 was named Hopper w/Sling is that the original Hopper (Hopper 2000) didn't have sling technology.
When the Hopper 3 came out, also with Sling technology, they renamed the previous Hopper 2 and didn't add the "with Sling" to the name of the Hopper 3

But, the front of the receiver says "Hopper 3 with Sling".

Dish never had a Hopper 2. What we often term Hopper 2 is actually Hopper with Sling. There are 4 versions of Hopper; Hopper 2000, Hopper with Sling, Hopper 3, and Hopper Duo.

But you know that Hopper 2 is what we all call it when we are referencing the sequence of hoppers from Hopper 1 to Hopper 3. I don't refer to it as the Hopper with Sling, unless you are looking back on all information about the model when it first came out.

I never had issues with my two Hopper setup having conflict issues. Both my prior HWSs and presently my Hopper 3s were connected so they can see each other.

Id'e love to know all of these issues. I should have asked the rep about her issues she was having. it might have been a bad install you know new guy not knowing anything about the hopper system ... she had one for her and one for her mother she told me she got rid of the second hopper and went with a joey instead and everything works fine!!! she also said that having more than one hopper just creates more zones. one hopper for one part of the house and another part of the house for the second and third hopper

VIP is a DUAL Tuner, not a Duo system

correct the vip 722 can do two rooms one box and no mirror fee's for the second room. all of the hoppers need a joey to work for each room there is a mirror fee for each joey

I still say the Wally is the way to go. They're only $60/ea, the second one is $5/mo and after the one time DVR fee, no other monthly fees. Uses the same LNB as the 722 and connects up like all the old school Dish receivers telstar is familiar with. It's as close to the Dish experience in 1997 as you can get.

i wouldn't waste the money on a hopper duo. dual tuners are so outdated in todays world unless ones a granny that hardly records anything!!!

the only fee i can we would be saving is the dvr fee if we did the poor mans hopper with the wally our joeys are 5.00 a month and the hopper fee is 10.00 a month

VIP is a DUAL Tuner, not a Duo system

My understanding is that systems designated by DiSH as Duo are usable by 2 users independently from each other. There's the Duo ViP222, the DuoDVR ViP722, etc. They actually started in with Duos way back with the 322/522. Through this time they also referenced single-user only units as Solo, such as SoloDVR ViP612. The 612 is HD-DVR and has 2 tuners but does not do 2 users, thus it is designated SoloDVR ViP612. The 722 also has dual tuners and is a Duo because 2 users.

This implies that the Hopper Duo can serve 2 users. I would presume in same manner as with ViP Duos. If not then they've changed or corrupted the meaning of Duo. It doesn't mean dual tuner, it means dual user.

The Hopper Duo can serve 2 users but that second viewer needs a Joey. That Joey, incidentally, provides an HD picture which the 722 didn't. Duo means 2 users over 2 tuners, nothing more.

A combo of Hopper Duo plus Joey could be unitarily considered a Duo system. The point is to NOT only have 1 box to support two users so that both users have an HD picture with all the same options at both TVs

As I recall, I had my 722 set up in "single" mode anyway because the "2nd TV" was SD-only and you actually had to give up some dual tuner features to enable that 2nd SD TV.
