The FCC Will Allow ABC, CBS, FOX, & NBC TV Stations to Shutdown Free ATSC 1.0 & Switch to ATSC 3.0 Only

More changes.
I thought that they weren't going forward with ATSC 3.0. I doubt many people have TVs that have such a tuner in them and that there is no standard established yet. Isn't the encryption causing this to be delayed anyway?

And 🖕 to the consumer again!

At this point I hope 3.0 fails miserably and they get a 🖕right back at them!

I'm truly confused here.
So is the FCC apparently. They seem ready to give the providers anything they want.

ALL they need to do, is demand the removal of DRM, and ATSC 3.0 will take off like a Space-X rocket. The non-exploding ones, instead of the exploding ones...

This is an NPRM, so yes, it's followed by a comment period and everything. There's nothing actually adopted here; that comes later. Breathless inaccurate reporting aside.

At times, someone opposed to something will still vote for the NPRM since it asks a lot of questions, as this one does. Gomez clearly has concerns but wants to hear about the questions asked.

"Want to know what comes next for ATSC 3.0? That depends entirely on whether broadcasters can remember they're in the business of serving communities, not just monetizing spectrum."

It's not that they can't remember, it's that they don't care.

Future use for mobile on ATSC 3.0?
