Anybody ever see this?

Are we really that far behind the rest of the world?

I know its a year or so old but NJ FIOS still isn't in my community and I'm looking for an alternative because Comcast sucks in my town. Last night they had a "major outtage."

To my understanding, there are similar problems with Verizon (or its ILEC predecessor(s)) in Philadelphia and Massachusetts as well, since they made commitments to the state / taxpayers to put in fiber and in fact did not. They even refuse to do so now in most areas until they are given a "sweetheart" franchise deal, IIRC.
