Agree with the points above except for the F bomb. I did not hear it nor do I believe that they would have aired that on broadcast TV (although curse words don't bother me). This was just not a good episode. If we are only going to get a dozen or so episodes I don't want them wasted with that crap.

Oh language has been popping up all over and in the most surprising places and times. Then it disappears. It seems to be "seasonal".

I agree with getting crap, but then MacFarlane tends to go that way . . . mucking things up when they are going good. If the promo is any indication as to what's in store this season, it looks to be more action-packed and darker. Unless it's MacFarlane's "sense of humor" in a bait and switch. Hope not.

It was a bad decision to air this episode as the premiere. I mean, Seth shouldn't have made it in the first place, but even so, air it in the middle of the season or something. Pick an episode that has a good story to kick off the season. Unless this was FOX's choice, but still. Anyone tuning in for the first time, or even just returning viewers, might get turned off and then not bother watching the remaining 13 episodes.

I'm sure it was Fox's decision. Historically, they screw over EVERY sci-fi series that they've ever aired. Seth might have enough power over them to avoid the worst of it. We will have to wait and see.
 
So I just finished watching S2-E2 "Primal Urges", which was technically S1-E13 that was held over from last season.

This was another TV-14 episode, but not because of profanity. It was better than last week's premiere, but this episode started off bad as well, spending a lot of time focusing on Bortus' pornographic holodeck addiction ruining his marriage.

Arguably, the second-half of the episode was much more along the lines of what I would expect out of a science-fiction series. It focused on the crew's effort to evacuate the population of a dying planet, but there was only enough room on the shuttle for 30 of the 75 people, so through the use of a random lottery, 45 of the planet's inhabitants ended up stranded and killed. And there was an interesting conversation between Isaac and Bortus, where Isaac said it would've made more sense for the most intelligent people to have been saved, instead of random selection, to which Bortus responded that even though he was more "primitive" compared to Isaac, he was glad he was nothing like him.

My Fox channels got blacked out with a pricing dispute, so all I have is an hour long image of a placard saying how Fox is a bunch of crooks, and how Spectrum is only trying to represent our best interests. :(
Seeing all the posts, I guess I was 'fortunate'. Probably won't bother to grab it online.

I found Thursday's episode more enjoyable than Sunday's. Given DialgaChampion's comment that this was an episode from last season, I hope this doesn't mean that the rest of Season 2 will be more like Sunday's episode than "Primal Urges".

That said, I was ahead of the episode almost every step of the way. Once Bortus requested the "special simulation" from the new species in engineering (Seth MacFarlane sub-titles, that was new) the computer glitches were expected as was the Deus ex Machina (literally). I did like the interpersonal relationships a lot better in this episode, so again there's hope for more serious exploration without playing it solely for laughs.

I agree with the comments about the first 2 episodes being boring/weird, not sure what is going on. Almost like the acting has gotten worse and they are just reading their lines and the show just bounces around between characters. Loved the first season but this season has been a yawn so far!
 
I agree with what you guys are saying ... these first 2 episodes were Underwhelming ....
Next week we get rid of last years and into the new year, so hopefully its MUCH better.

Last Thursdays episode felty like a FILLER episode that McFarland said he DIDN'T want and he pushed to make BETTER episodes ...

Wasn't that part of the reason he gave for them not starting the show at the Normal time and wait till the End of Dec. ... that he was making episodes that were MUCH better ?

At least thats what they said.

That's the thing. He originally said in multiple interviews that the reason he wasn't doing 20+ episodes per season was to avoid filler, but Sunday's premiere was precisely a filler episode. If you're only producing 12-14 episodes a year, you can't waste episodes on filler content, because people will get annoyed at how long they're waiting for them, and then they'll be disappointed at the end result.

Thursday's episode was 2.82 million, with a 0.6/3 rating for 18-49. Last season averaged about 4.32 million total. Looks like it wasn't just us who were turned off by Sunday's premiere and the ratings took a major nosedive from that. If this poor episode quality continues throughout the new season and FOX can't get at least 3 million as a season average, I don't think it stands a chance for renewal.

I wonder if it's an ego thing... if Seth saw the ratings and success of the first season, let it go straight to his head, and then decided he could do whatever he wanted for season two, and the TNG sci-fi viewers would still tune in week after week anyway.

I've never been a SM fan, but I started to changed my mind with the first season. Starting to go back to my old opinion.
 
While episode 2 wasn't the best. I enjoyed it. Especially the part where they rescued the people and they had to decide who got to live and who didn't.

While the holodeck went a little too far, it did have it's moments. "Hi, I'm Dann"
