Got this offer from Dish today. Looks like I can buy a receiver, then rent it....what a deal......see the great offer bolded below
-------------------------------------------------
DISH Network wants all of our customers to enjoy the power of a DVR (Digital Video Recorder). Our records show you currently do not have a DISH DVR – which is why we’re extending this special offer to you so you can:

Pause and rewind live TV.

Record without a videotape.

Create instant replays.

The DVR also lets you store hours of your favorite shows, and quickly find them on a convenient recordings menu. DISH DVR means your TV viewing experience will never be the same. Click here to check out an interactive demo on our state-of-the-art DVR!

For the special price of $49.00* we can ship you a DVR receiver that you can easily set up yourself.

* The $49.00 price includes the cost of the equipment and shipping and handling. This offer is for a shipped single-tuner DVR (Model 510) receiver only. Professional installation may be required for an additional fee. Additional taxes may apply. Offer requires an 18-month commitment to qualifying programming under the DISH’n It Up program. If qualifying service is terminated or downgraded prior to end of 18-month period, a cancellation fee equal to the lesser of $240 or $13.33 per month for each cancelled month of service will apply. Requires a valid major credit card and qualifying programming purchase. If qualifying service is terminated or downgraded, equipment must be returned to DISH Network. Monthly $5.00 equipment rental fee applies for each receiver. A $5.98 per month DISH Network DVR service fee will be charged for each model 510 receiver activated. This fee will be waived for America’s “Everything” Pak, DishLATINO “Everything” Pak, or DishHD™ Platinum subscribers. Other restrictions may apply.

I think the bottom junk is jst the "form" legal mumbojumbo crap that applies to some but not all transactions under that program. and the 49.00 free is probaly in reality a upgrade free to the dvr so in realty they are not offeringu to buy it for 49.00, but to upgrade to experience a dvr for a cheep price of 49.00

so in realty they are not offering u to buy it for 49.00, but to upgrade to experience a dvr for a cheep price of 49.00
Plus $5, Plus $5.98, for $10.98 a month, plus another $5 if you don't have the phone line connected. :D

But I guess if you turned in one receiver and keep the 510, there would be a -5 charge for a +$5 charge.
