There's a flying saucer on highway 50 in Delta, CO that's made of two beautiful perforated dishes. I've also seen a flower and a peach in the area.

They look like fiberglass dishes to me. Quite a few fiberglass dish brands weren't all that good back in the day. They break down and get even worse as they age. So, quite likely it's not really much of a loss to use them for things like this.
