TLC from Welcome Pak?

I do believe that the removal of channels from Welcome Pack is an effort by Dish to get more subscribers to upgrade to Flex Pack. When Flex Pack was first launched, I immediately noticed that it includes a pretty complete collection of channels that I used to be able to get at no additional cost with Welcome Pack. Some of those channels were actually in Welcome Pack (AMC), some were "accidentally" left in free preview for several months (FXX, National Geographic, Weather Nation, HD Net Movies), some were account-specific glitches. (I had one Welcome Pack account that got TNT, and another Welcome Pack account that got HLN, but neither account got both.) Finally, there was a package where I could go up just one level and get all of those channels back, which is why I upgraded to Flex Pack. Apparently, not enough other Welcome Pack subscribers did the same, so now Dish is making more changes. I have said before that once my price-lock and autopay discount expire, I would seriously consider dropping back down to Welcome Pack to save money. However, with the changes Dish has made so far this year, they are making it harder to do that.

I'm sure by the end of the year dish will be removing welcome pack. It would make things simpler for them if the get rid of everything but Flex pack and the AT packages. From there people can add addon packages to further customize what they want/need. Yes welcome pack is good for rv'ers but their also trying to migrate those customers to Flex pack as well.

Time to get grandfathered in, if you haven't already

I guess I haven't really paid much attention to the TLC programming line-up recently. After taking a look a this weeks TLC schedule, IMHO, HMM for TLC is not such a bad deal. It seems as though TLC basically consists of shows about really tall people, really short people, really obese people, people with deformities, oh, and a show called Dr Pimple Popper. It's basically a carny sideshow.
Precisely what I was getting at. Programming on TLC has deteriorated to the point that a swap to HMM to save some money made sense. They know how many people are watching the channel and probably felt that it wasn't worth what was being asked for it to leave in a bargain package.

This has always been a curiosity of mine. How exactly do they know who is watching what? Satellite TV is a one-way medium, unless the receiver is connected to the internet...

I'd say a pretty large percentage are connected to the internet now days; certainly plenty enough for a valid statistical sample. Not really a random sample, but with a large enough number, it'd be close enough.

Ziptied, I thought you said you had HMM earlier. Now it looks like you may be agreeing with comfortably_numb, who doesn't have HMM. Did you gain the channel and then lose it, or were you only answering the first part of his post (asking if it is on channel 187) and not agreeing with the part about not getting it?

At the moment the DISH channel chart is not showing HMM or TLC as being in the Welcome Pack...

Well, Dish had better be delivering one or the other to Welcome Pack subscribers, or they should come up with something else to replace it. Otherwise, Welcome Pack subscribers should be calling Dish to ask for a Loyalty credit on their bills, especially after the recent price increase.

Just confirming that I had it on ch. 187.
