To D1000 or not - Dayton, OH - LiL

I have a waiver to receive network feeds and I live in the Dayton, OH market. With the impending removal of those feeds I am looking at my options to get the Dayton channels. Currently these are on 105 and mirrored at 129. I am trying to figure what the best option is to upgrade considering the Superdish phaseout and the 129 signal fade with the D1000. I currently use two D300 to look at 110/119 with a dish 501 receiver.

I could:
- get a D1000 and live with poor 129
or get a D500 and use the D300 on 129
or find a used Superdish

or I could wait for Echostar to move my locals to 110/119

any suggestions? - I love to tinker, I could even do a mad scientist dish

That's the "best" option, is it not ?? The 300 will only have to be aimed at one satellite vs splitting the difference between two satellites.

i agree with hall as a dnsc tech in ohio the 129 sucks i would use a 500 dish skued to 90 you will get a better signal on the 129 from mid to high 70's with a d300 and mid to high 80's with a d500

Just to make sure I understand you - are you saying set the skew on a D500 to 90 degrees and then aim it at 129???

Or did you mean use a D500 for 110/119 and another one for 129 or a D300 for a little less signal?

Wait - I replied before thinking - again. By setting the skew to 90 degrees the D500 becomes a regular straight up dish like a D300 but has a larger reflector for more signal - right? (A D500 with a single LNB)

Why not get an additional 300 for 129? You are already building an antenna farm and this way you could optimize each signal. The switching is a little more complicated but since you love to tinker.....

That's a possiblity - I live in a very rural area so the antenna farm isn't a problem. I need to lookup the switch configuration but that is an interstesting idea. Thanks.

Dish 500

I am new at this.. I have a 500 and need to get my locals in my area. It says that I now need a D1000. Can i use this 500 or must I buy the new 1000 to receive my locals.

I live in WV and qualify for clarksburg WV.. I have sign up for them and been approved however, they will not show up .. and ideas. I have a 2 year old dish 500

I believe that Clarksburg, WV locals are only on 105 and 129 not 110/119. They are another set of locals that haven't been moved to 110.

I have a Dish 1000 with all 3 satellites, no problems getting the LiL signal from the 129 (or the HD channels, I live in Kettering). As long as they do a good job aiming the dish you shouldn't have any major problems.

Thanks for the info, mlb. I live north of you so we should have similar reception. I may have access to a Superdish here in the near future from a buddy who is moving and switching to cable. I am considering doing a mad scientist thing and making it work for 110/119 and 129 if I can get the geometry right. That should minimize any possible rain fade.
