Top 250 to Latino Dos?

Well, you get the bill in the mail and you are nearing $100 a month for Sat TV and you start thinking... alright... maybe I need to make some adjustments. My loves are that of a typical American, European Football and classic movies, and HD movies/music. :D

So FSC and TCM. Life just doesn't work with that sort of thing and 250 is the only way to get both. Currently Top 250 and Plat... or $80 for programming, excluding fees.

So I'm pondering a complete mix up. Dish America is promising, for $35 a month, but you can't add on the sports. Then doing some searching, it looks like Latino Dos would get me a number of channels not included in 120+, and FSC, though there are a couple channels missing (History and VH-1 for instance). Of course, no TCM, but I'm thinking about getting Netflix to help cover that end and still be $17 a month cheaper, even staying with Platinum ($45 Latino Dos, $10 platinum, $8 Netflix = $63).

As a bonus, it'd come with ESPN Deportes and Fox Espanol. For $17 cheaper, including Netflix which would fill in some of the voids from losing other channels, this seems like a way to go. In the past, TCM was too important to lose, but nearing $100 (partially thanks to OH's "constitutional" sales tax on Sat TV and not cable), I'm willing to compromise.

Now, is there anything I'm not catching onto, as far as catches? I'm on the Eastern Arc, 61.5, 72.7 and 77. Thanks.

ETA: Hmmm... no ESPN or ESPN2! Zoiks!

Latino Max is $57, I think. I'm willing to give up ESPN and ESPN2... I rarely watch those channels anymore as it is. And EPL matchups on the Deuce are on ESPN Deportes. Is there a second audio for english on Deportes and the similar channels?

That's true that the EPL matchups are on ESPN Deportes as well, but remember that ESPN 2 is in HD while ESPN Deportes is not. If your ISP provides you with ESPN3, you can watch all the EPL, La Liga, and other soccer matches on there. It's basically near HD quality (if you have a high internet speed). That should help you cope without ESPN and ESPN 2 in the Dish Latino Dos package. I recently dropped from Dish Latino Max ($57.99/mo) to America's Top 120 Plus ($49.99/mo), which includes FSC, ESPN, and ESPN 2. I'm missing my ESPN Deportes, but all the soccer matches that they show are on ESPN3, so I watch them from there.

Below is a general list to possibly help you with the channels available in the package. We switched from America's Top 250 to Dish Latino Dos for the same reasons. However, please notice that the channel numbers may change for some of your channels in the 800 range and the 5000 range. For example, AMC is in SD on channel 890, and AMC is in HD on channel 5406. It may take a little getting used to, but I think you will get the hang of it especially with a favorites list. Some of the audio channel names may have changed. I also think the Sirius Jam On channel is on a different channel, and I believe that the old channel number now has Sirius XM Pearl Jam if I am not mistaken. I really hope this helps. Here is a comparison of what I had for the lower packs (Hopefully, I will be able to find time to add the Welcome Pack and Family Pack one day): View attachment DishNetworkComparison.xls

Thanks a ton for the info.

I really don't care much for Encore if I get the Platinum. Encore was nicer before I went to an HDTV. The gains appear to be Animal Planet, Boomerang, FSC (the big one), Hub, IFC, NatGeo (a good pickup), AMC, among a few others.

The losses seem to be Disney owned, from ESPNs to Disney to ABC family. I switch and then all of a sudden don't care about the Dish v Disney dispute. :D Personally, losing Fox News would be a huge blow. I mean, where else could I possibly get such "balanced" news coverage? ;) History and Travel Channel are a couple other losses.

Honestly, Latino Dos seems like a good package, and it comes with the sports, unlike Top 120.

My last question is, are there English audios available on channels like Fox Sports Espangol (not that I'd watch it as much seeing I'd have FSC) and ESPN Deportes? As noted before, I may just catch the ESPN feeds on ESPN3. I have the Internet speed for it.

Now all I guess is left is the wife and being able to sub Netflix for TCM.

Appreciate the comments and information.

I should note that Ion (West) does not seem to be included; I doubt that it will mean much to most unless you want qubo programming. I am not sure why the East feed is offered but not the West feed.

Alright, made the switch, but there is a gap in the channels between 5210 and 5425. They don't appear to have been mapped.

Geesh... try to save a few bucks and it takes two hours to get all the channels up. The info at this site is priceless. At one point I was told the channels were on a different satellite. I knew that wasn't right, but the sources here make it dead certain.

They probably didn't turn on your Playboy either. Had to argue with an IRT CSR here for 30 minutes before he turned it on. Said it wasn't part of the package. I sent him multiple links from Dish website pages and he STILL didn't believe me. Said the webpages must be wrong.........

Also, make sure they turned on your RSN, mine was delayed.

Have you resolved this problem? I have just this package (along with the Multi-Sports Package from Oct to June) and all of these channels are showing up on my guide. I think you're making a good move. As a soccer and hockey fan I get all the channels I need, except Versus and NHL Network frequently shows repeats of the games on versus anyway. I don't get live out of market games on the out of market regional sports networks but living in CA I can watch the East Coast repeats and DVR the others. Some of the regional sports networks will also give you selected Champions League repeats. You have to watch the guide or the RSNs websites. If you understand Spanish you'll find the announcers on Fox Deportes and ESPN Deportes are much more interesting than the British announcers and much more knowledgeable than the North American announcers. Also, as you noted the price is much better too.

I had to call in because some of the channels we were supposed to get were in red at first. It was one of the few times I called in since I was away at a computer. After I called in and explained the problem, the channels we subbed to were available. I have to wonder if this happens to subs who have no clue what they sub to, and that is not directed at you especially since it is clear that you know. However, I feel sorry for those who do not know.

Therefore, I would call and tell them in order for them to do a rehit or reauthorization or whatever it is called. It would be a problem they would have to fix. They will probably ask if you tried resetting and all that jazz. I did all that, and I still had them showing up in red.

Make sure all your SD and audio channels are there as well. You are paying for them, and all of them should be there. We had some missing audio channels in the 900 range. We like audio channels (although mainly the Sirius ones).

It is also under a la carte for $0.00 your Dish Network account page. I am not sure if it will just let you add it. However, the way I see it is if you are paying for it then you might as well have it.

OP, did you pick Dos or Max?

We have Dos, and if memory serves me correctly, our HD channel range (besides locals, Spanish channels, and RSNs) is from channel 5303 (Spike TV HD) to 5406 (AMC HD). It is most likely different for Max.

Let us know if you need more help.

I went w/ Max myself to get the natgeo & other channels he talked about in Max. I was a HD abs customer & getting a really good rate + the free Starz for a year. I went thru one of the E* IRT that is on here to get it started, then had to go do chat as somethings didn't come up right. It was fixed after I talked to a supervisor. The CSR I chatted with didn't have a clue about the right things to do.

Everyone works now, I think Dos HD wasn't included when I was changed over. Once that was determined after a couple hours, everything mapped and all was good. That was the problem. I couldn't even see the channels in Red. They simply weren't there.

Though Playboy isn't included in the mapping. The Dish website shows it as $0 to add on, but if you choose it, they say you have to call in to have it added. I bet if I do so, I'll be on the Chat for the following 3 hours trying to get back programming that disappeared, Starz or half of the Platinum channels, with one rep saying that I'll need to get a Very Large Array installed in order to get every satellite in the known universe.

Why can't we just add it from the website? Why give the option if you can't choose it? Dish Network's programming quality, availability, and options really are great, but try to change anything and you are rolling the dice in craps.

That's the problem with the Dish Network setup. It isn't exactly obvious. It is bad enough to have channels among a trio of satelites (with even the SD of one channel on a different satelite than the HD version of the same channel). They have multiple versions of channels. I received Fox Soccer Channel on 149 in Top 250... same dish... same everything... now it is on channel 2da6d for Latino Dos.

Then you get online and the people who allegedly know what is going on... may not actually know what is actually going on. You think one thing, they say the other... and if a person doesn't know better, who are they to judge? Luckily I find a site like this that has charts and all sorts of stuff. I was told that I didn't have the right dish setup to get the channels. Well, obviously having Top 250 with Platinum that can't possibly be true... however, with the way Dish has their setup... I'm wondering, is Latino Dos on west only? But the site here has the info, so I know the Dish Rep is wrong. That sort of certainty is priceless when trying to resolve the problem.

But I'm happy now (well ignoring that my Blu-Ray player can't stream Netflix for some reason OY!), $25 less a month, and $10 for Netflix. Saving $15 a month, and really getting more for my dollar. Latino Dos seems like a good trade off, if you can handle losing ESPN and ESPN2... and the other Disney owned channels.

Unfortunately you did not see the thread:

" FSC added to Top 120 Plus "

before you made your change.

That has ESPN-HD and ESPN2-HD rather than ESPN Deportes SD.

(I suppose there is no reason you can't change again.)

Oh, I did. I fully knew my options. Latino Dos is $5 less, comes with Deportes which has Spanish Premier League soccer (albeit in Spanish), and a few other channels. Nat Geo, Animal Planet, boomerang (that oddly enough would have been missed by me) and AMC are in Latino Dos (not in Top 120+), so there are movies, unlike Top 120 plus. So I saved a few more bucks and really didn't watch ESPN and ESPN2 enough to justify it.
