I'm doing a home theater setup with about a 9ft viewing distance. What's the right size? Will be used mostly for movie viewing and sports.
Thanks:confused:

What TV's are you looking at? Theater denotes a screen that is somewhat immersive. There is a difference between just watching TV and experiencing the programming. From 9ft 52" would be a minimum, larger would be better.

I have a mits 63"

We sit 13 feet away.

At 11 feet, we both thought it was too big, 13 it looks right.

Just an FYI.

If you are too close, your eyes hurt on big screens after a while.

Well, for the benefit of others:

There is some difference of opinion as to how far away you should be for given display sizes.

The "Grand Alliance" goes with 30 degrees (SMTPE) viewing angle, or about 3.3 times the display height.
A more conventional view is THX, 36 degrees or between 1.5 & 2.5 times screen width.
Electrohome recommends somewhere between 3 and 6 times the display width.

So for a 52" diagonal display, you get recommendations of 7 feet, 5.7 to 9.4 feet, and 11.3 to 22.7 feet, respectively.

What really matters is what looks good to YOU. No unquestioned "best" viewing distance. FWIW, I have a 61" that I view about 12 feet away.
