Two lines or splitter

I am thinking of getting a HD-DVR. Do I need to have an additional line coming into the house or can I just split the current line into two inside the house?

What dish do you have? I'll assume the 5LNB. You need to have all four lines run for future expansion. You use two for the DVR.
