That is the NBC/GE channel that is being shown OTA as a sub-channel in lots of markets. During Olympic years, it may have some live coverage, but otherwise, not so much.

Adding that one is similar to adding another shopping channel, nothing to brag about. :)

Check out the schedule and then come back and tell us if you think it was an even swap for VS.

I don't, I was being sarcastic, the channel is garbage

I really hope this was in the works prior to losing Versus, but somehow I doubt it, especiallyw ith the placement at 604. :(

This fallout looks worse every day, and is flat out terrible for hockey fans.

I agree that this probably started to happen once the Versus/ Directv talks took a turn in a direction whre they knew were dropping it. This channel probably is costing them almost nothing and was probably added due the cycling coverage that it has.

I don't think this channel means anything one way or the other as far as Versus goes. The channel number 604 is just the old Golf Channel/Versus HD combo channel before Versus and Golf Channel got their own HD channels (603/605). And this channel isn't taking up Versus' transponder space. As you know, all MPEG 4 HDs are on D10/D11 at spots 99 and 103 and the SD channels like this one are at 101. If I'm not mistaken Versus' transponder is currently being used for HD PPV channel 159.

What a waste of bandwidth, I allready get this as a sub on my NBC channel. Will NBC remove it as a subchannel and return the bits back to NBCHD, HELL NO! So why in the hell is Directv wasting bandwidth on this! How about this Add a worthy channel such as Travel HD, or WGN america HD, or how about finishing off the rest of the movie channels that you havent added such as HBO and Skinimax!

It isn't HD so it's only taking about 25% (maybe less) the space of a HD channel. Plus it got added to 101 and all MPEG 4 national HD are on 99/103. So having this channel, as worthless as it maybe, doesn't impact any future HD channels.

channel 604. I guess we can stop whining about losing Versus now. :D

The description of channel 604 US states: "Complimentary special cycling programming from Universal Sports available through 9/30." Just thought that I would point that out.

Yup they just announced on their Twitter feed that the channel was going to be carried for a month.

We have this channel via OTA and everytime I turn it on, its a replay of the Winter Olympics.

As an Olympic sports fan this is a channel I would VERY much like to have. (For me, enough so that it could keep me from leaving DirecTV.) It's not just re-runs (just as Versus isn't) and they absolutely show lots of live or same day coverage of Olympic sports NBC never will air.

I'm glad YOU get it OTA, but I don't, so it's very valuable to me and, I'm sure, others. Maybe it's a minority, but so is the viewership of Versus. (And, yes, I agree I hate that Universal Sports is SD but I don't even know if they HAVE an HD version. I think not at this point.)

I'm suprised you don't most NBC affiliates were forced to pick it up on a digital sub channel at one point. The local station here a channel with just local news on it, but they had to move that channel online. They replaced it's channel spot with Universal Sports.

Feel free to be "surprised" but, according to Wikipedia ([ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Sports"]Universal Sports - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Question_book-new.svg" class="image"><img alt="Question book-new.svg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/99/Question_book-new.svg/50px-Question_book-new.svg.png"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/9/99/Question_book-new.svg/50px-Question_book-new.svg.png[/ame]), Universal Sports is in 38 markets right now, either as a sub-channel and/or offered via local cable. Considering there are 210 U.S. TV markets, that's hardly "most" NBC stations.
