Found this in an old 1957 Fannie Farmer Junior cookbook. See what you think of these mix-ups

- cream of pea and tomato

- cream of celery and tomato

- cream of pea and green turtle

- cream of pea and mushroom

- chicken with rice and tomato

- Scotch broth and consomme'

- Tomato soup and clam broth

Anybody know what Scotch broth is?

Here's some Scotch broth info. My mother used to give me Campbell's Scotch broth. IIRC it was a very thin beef (lamb?) stock with nothing else in it, almost clear. Kinda like chicken broth. But that's not the classic recipe! Maybe my memory failed me here. Scotch broths are in fact loaded with vegetables especially barley.

Original Scotch Broth Recipes

This info from Campbell's would seem to confirm what I'm remembering, i.e., that there's nothing in their version:

The one I remember doing as a kid was mixing chicken and stars soup with regular old chicken noodle and calling it stars and stripes soup. Not unusual, but fun...
