Upcoming Software Updates...

I'm guessing it's a fix for the "receiver reboots if you use PIP when shared view is disabled" issue.

There is supposed to be a MAJOR software release for the 622 around October 1st, this new software version is suppoed to have some new stuff in it (what new stuff I don't know).

Scott, when you find out, are you allowed to let us know? Here are my GUESSES:
  • External USB-2 Hard Drive Support
  • Maybe activation of the LAN port for wireless connectivity. (that would be a MAJOR upgrade as there would be a need for an entire infrastructure of features.) (Web access?)
  • Addition of channels? (I know Houston's Time Warner has Fox Sports Southwest in HD) (I also know that this wouldn't really require a software upgrade in order to happen).
  • They have to get HD locals timers working. Basically, I subscribe to locals (so I can have the guide data and so I can have two streams of local HD to choose from). If I set a timer on the off-the-air version of the channel, they don't get recorded because the DVR doesn't know whether or not it should record the show from the off-the-air version of the channel or the satellite version of the channel. Maybe they'll have that fixed (but I doubt it.)
  • HDMI Update
  • Receiver Reboots

Do you think the Tivo lawsuit will effect any of our current features when this MAJOR upgrade is released?

Whoa! I didn't know about this. Can you refer me to another thread that discusses this problem? (I was thinking about sub'ing to locals just to get guide data and be able to record. This problem would make that pointless.)

I Dont have problems with this at all and I record between ota and local dn hd all the time..

That means they rolled it out to a small group of receivers (probably all internal) to make sure there were not problems with the update before making it public.

Still confusing, since it says FULL PHASE, which means ALL receivers get it. Usually if it's a PARTIAL PHASE, then it's when they're testing before going to FULL.
Maybe they're already past that point.

I am not sure how it all works. Smith P seems to have a handle on things and he could explain it to us better.

Yes from the notes I got it is going out to all 622's at around Midnight.

I believe it's only in certain markets. Happens all the time with ABC-13 in Houston. It would always get confused during the season finale week(s) of Alias, Lost and Boston Legal. I was lucky that ABC started offering shows online or I would have missed the season finale of Lost because the 622 didn't record it (even though I had the timer set). I always like to record OTA instead of the sat feed if possible for PQ reasons. I know it's the 622's fault because, if I turn off locals via sat in the 622's menu, my OTA timers work like a charm every time.

Ouote: PID:08B3h, ID:KMTC, FW:L360, Model:ViP622.<only 198 serial numbers covering>

What's that mean?:confused:

Start from top:
you'll see what transponder and satellite transmitting those software packages;

PID - separate elementary stream ID,
ID - unique ID of that spooling software,
FW - exactly version of the software;
Model - what kind of receiver targetting;

there are much more info like you saw in other posts before, what cover precisely what batch of receivers will accept the software.

Huh, Scott - you are the gamma tester ! If you got if from first batch. Wanna check those 198 numbers ? :)

Still no fixes for HDMI issues and the self reboots on the 622!

DAMN!!!:mad:

I think it is going to be very hard to Dish to fix the 211/411/622 HDMI problems with a software update, as I think it is a hardware problem. But I would be happy to be proved wrong.

My un-educated guess would be that if Native-Passthru doesn't fix it nothing in software will. This is what I am waiting for. There will be a lot of 622 swap outs if the HDMI problem is still here after Native-Passthru is enabled.

I have seen at another site that it was mentioned that someone else said that this 622 release will contain a lot of new features.

This is NOT true, there are no new features that I know off.

In fact I have received the official release notes for the new software however I have been asked not to post them until the software spools. Again there are no new features.

Besides adding support for USB storage, E* would really make my day if they would add a feature to queue up multiple recordings for playback. My wife regularly records news snippets, her soap, and Oprah (ugh!) to the 622 and I would to be able to queue up 6 hours worth and burn it to DVD while I sleep.

This seems like a simply feature to implement...wonder why we haven't seen it on any of the DVRs.
