Upgrade to New Hopper/sling from Old Hopper (existing customer)

I just spoke with a csr that said it would run me 200.00 due to limited quantities and if I wait a few more weeks then it would cost me 50-100 bucks to do it.

I've never heard of that before. If they were talking about the Hopper With Sling, I doubt the price is dropping within weeks of launching. The lowest upgrade post regarding cost was $200, $50 is what the original goes for if you qualify and it took many months before the Hopper dropped to $50.

Never believe a CSR person from any company. If you want to know the latest info then come here. If it concerns prices on equipment or programming you'll find it here first. The person you talked to is clueless.

While that's generally good advice, the CSR is correct in that if you are an existing customer and want to upgrade to HwS, it currently costs $200 to do it. I do have my doubts about the price dropping anytime soon though.

Just to make this publicly visible, the new Hopper with Sling (Hopper W/S) are $200 at best for existing customers. Regular Hoppers are $50 at best. We are unable to discount the upgrade costs.

I know the CSR was correct on the price but they have no idea about price reductions. I wish they wouldn't say anything other than what they know to be true. All it does is confuse the customer and makes Dish look bad.

I received the same information the other night. I did a chat and was quoted $200. When I told the CSR that I could not justify paying another $200 to upgrade a DVR I got less than 6 months ago he transferred me to a "specialist." After I made the same statement to the Specialist, held told me that since this DVR was new he couldn't do anything for me now because it was new but I could wait a few months until the price dropped. I saved the chat (it's on my laptop at home).

I'd like to see it drop to 50.00. However when the rep said it would be between 50-100 in a few weeks I didn't buy it either. I could see paying 200.00 if it was a new hopper with 6 tuners, brand new interface and had many new features but it only has 3 new features that I know of. Another rep told me that only one hopper with sling allowed. I'm thinking Is it really going to be like this every time a new hopper comes out ?

And when the price does drop in a few months all the people that did the upgrade now will complain about not getting the cheaper price. It never ends, people will always complain.

The only reason I want to upgrade to new Hopper is Ipad transfer since my hopper is not able to do it. I talked to a rep and he told me that upcoming S236 software update to old hopper will include ability to transfer apps to the ipad. I want to believe it but sceptical about what he told me. Let me know if anyone else also received the same information from other reps.

Yeah, I think that's too good to be true. I harped on this point (here) during CES, and I believe Scott was able to get the answer direct from Vivek Kempka himself, namely that it won't happen. Nevertheless, I still think it's possible, both on H1 and on earlier DVR receivers, if only (1) the software were added and (2) we are willing to wait LONG ENOUGH for the conversion.

That is false. Hopper Transfers will not work on the original Hopper due to hardware limitations. S236 is not adding that functionality.

Mine will be delivered tomorrow. Paid $200.00 for the swap out with the old hopper. Was also given $10.00 a month credit for 12 months.

Latest will be S237 (or later.) Doubt that it will include Hopper transfers.

Upgraded yesterday from the old Hopper(installed Thanksgiving week). So far I like it. Watching the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open at work via Sling and it looks pretty good. Not perfect, but I only have 1M up at home.

I was able to transfer a couple of programs and they look really good.
