So how many channels can go on a spot beam on each transponder.

Each transponder can hold a maximum of:

4 HD Video
or
12-13 SD Video
or
60-80 High quality CD channels
or
near infinity "Dish Audio" mono channels. :)

Actually it could be a combination of any of those except HD. Currently HD channels need their own separate transponder.

Also, keep in mind that the terms "transponder" and "spot beam" are not interchangeable. There can be several transponders in a spot beam. A transponder can be a spot beam, but a spot beam needs at least one transponder. Just like a flash light, it does you no good without a light bulb.

Spot beam = flashlight
Transponder = light bulb

See ya

Technically no they don't. BEV does it. Buttttt..... if you put an SD channel on a 8PSK xponder only 8PSK capable receivers could view it. But they could slide in an HD channel with a few SD channels on a QPSK xponder. But that would be a waste...

14095 KAET1 MOVED TO Tp 8
14096 KAET2 MOVED TO Tp 8
14097 KSAZ2 MOVED TO Tp 8

WTF? KAET (Phoenix PBS) has been missing guide data for months. Interesting about KSAZ2, its the local Fox. Zap2it.com has show a 10.2 for a long time now but I have never seen a sub channel on KSAZ.
