Yes. The two mediums on broadcast TV. Film almost always looked better - warmer, more stylish, with more emotion.

Videotape usually looked cold, making everything look like soap operas and game shows.
And the evening news. I hated it, and nearly every show that shot on it.

Odd, as videotaped shows generally looked washed out compared to film. The lighting was always uniform, and the image was devoid of feeling.

That's why they refer to that unfortunate byproduct of LCD TV's smoothing circuitry as "soap opera effect". It sucks all of the emotion out of a film's image, and makes everything look like a TV studio production.
Family rented the movie Dolohin Tail 2 and that is how it looked. It even mad cheap porn video look like Panavision shot by Martin Scorcese.

I think with the money they make per episode with NCIS or law and order that the stars should retire when they get too old or old enough where they have to tone it down. Why not recruit a new pair to take over?

In real life , most people retire long before they need to worry about Hd cameras making them look old and wrinkled. Or at least change careers many times over.

Because the "old pair" still draw.

If they do recruit a new pair to take over, people like me would probably quit watching. The cast is what makes these shows popular and if they change the cast, they change the show.

I remember when Kate (Caitlan) left there was outrage. Then Ziva left, more outrage. Now we have Ellie and there is still outrage.... If Gibbs or DiNozzo left there would be more than outrage, it would be suicide....
