I can't recall any purchase of a company that turned out good for consumers. There may have been a few but most end bad.

When someone buys Sprint and parts it out/shuts it down, that will probably be good for consumers. In most other cases, acquisitions aren't the consumer's friend.

IMHO, Sprint hasn't been a viable company for some time. They are on life support.

I think most would agree that Sprint represents a possible exception to camo's observation. Can it get any worse?

The challenge was to find a service that could be improved by an acquisition.

To your list, I could add anything acquired by Time Warner, Microsoft or Yahoo (now itself an acquisition of Verizon).

The Viacom deal officially wrapped just last Monday (March 4), so maybe give it a couple of weeks for major changes?

Viacom content is coming later this spring to Pluto TV. There are also rumors (not mentioned in this article) that a CNN channel will be added.

The uniqueness comes in the integrated channel guide. Many people would never look up all these channels individually, BUT, the guide alone makes all the difference to the "average, I just want to watch tv" person.
