FCC has issued the ground station license for Viasat 1 (launched a couple days ago).

While the Satellite license details show Viasat 1 is capable of coverage thruout the US and Canada ( multiple uplink/downlink spots), the ground station license map indicates Viasat 1 US service will be concentrated in the eastern US along with a band along the west coast and a spot around Phoenix and Devnver. Wildblue 1 and Anik F2 will be providing service for the other US lower 48 states.

Very high transfer rates (4/1 Mbit/s).

I've heard all kinds of rumors about upcoming changes with WB. Going to be interesting to see what really pans out.

The maps of US population distribution and wildblue subscriber distribution make an interesting comparison.

I would have thought the wild blue subs would have been concentrated in less populated areas (no dsl or cable). But, it appears to mirror the total population map.
