I have a vip722 with an external USB drive connected to the
rear USB port. I wanted to view some photos (jpg) located on
a USB stick. I put the stick in the front USB port. This
failed - system said only 1 device is support.

I removed the disk from the rear & rebooted the system
(without a reboot, the system would not recognize anything).
Now when I plug the photo stick into either the front or the
rear USB port, the system wants to reformat the USB stick &
erase the photos.

I called Dish. They claim that the vip722 no longer supports
photos on USB sticks. However, I cannot find anything on
forums or google to support this. In fact, the multimedia
menus on the vip722 appears to support photos on USB
devices. Did I get valid info from Dish?

Did activating the external disk deactivate photos?

Has anyone else had this problem???

Do you have anything else on the USB Stick, or just photos? HD DVRs always have the EHD feature active, and I am checking to see if the photo viewing has changed (I do not believe it has).

(Resend - not sure what happened to first response)

I've tried 2 different USB sticks. Both fail. First has only
2 files (.jpg & .JPG). The other has the same 2 files plus a couple
of SecureDiskAccess files that came on the stick.

Both USB sticks mount and are viewable on both a Linux and
Windows7 system. One has a FAT file system, the other a FAT32
file system.

What capacity are these USB sticks? There are some weird rules regarding size. For example, attaching an EHD smaller than about 50GB won't work for archiving programming. But I have been able to get USB thumb drives from 64MB (yes, that's an M) up to 32GB to work for photos. I have never owned a 64GB stick, but I would venture to guess that the receiver might think something with that capacity is meant for archiving, hence the attempt to format.

Yes!!! That was it. The 722k want to reformat the 64GB stick but
after a reboot of the 722k, I was able to see the photos on
the 2GB stick.

I am still unable to connect both the EHD and the 2GB stick at the same
time but I can live with that restriction.

Thanks for the pointer.

(Dish: you need to update tech support about restrictions on USB photos. They said
the vip722 no longer supported photos on USB sticks).
