I’m getting an increasingly common and fairly loud, harmonic hum from my ViP 622. I’m assuming it’s coming from the power supply. A good tap on the case stops it. The unit is about 2½ years old so I’m wondering if the power supply is about go out.

most likely not... Make sure the unit is well ventelated and there is no dust build up on the air vents on the sides of the unit... this can cause the fans to run constantly... also could be a bad fitting shorting the coax if its in just the right position... and then when you "hit" it (which isn't good for your harddrive by the way) it moves the wire just enough not to short anymore...

I know that I have heard a high pitched humming once or twice were the shorted fitting was the cause.

Thanks much for the advice. I was away for a couple days and just looked at the replies today.

Yep, you were right; one of the two coax cables was so loose it was almost disconnected. Well, duh. That's been going on for over a year. I am getting old.
