[VOOM] Direct vs. Comcast vs. VOOM vs. music and music...

wins hands down! Went over to hear an audio buddy's system--one of
the top rooms in the U.S. You want to hear a pin drop or the full
range of an electric guitar or full orchestra-it delivers the goods
but that's not why I'm posting.

While spending several hours listening my partner spent several hours
watching TV on a Marantz DLP front projector onto an 8 foot screen.
Between Direct and Comcast my buddy receives 20 HD channels! Even
more interesting was my partner's reaction to the PQ. Neither
provider had the PQ of VOOM particularly on the SD content. However,
even on HD where he was able to watch Discovery HD Theater there were
motion artifacts including more skeeter noise. Color was better on
Direct while Comcast had less noise including motion artifacts. I can
confirm the observations on Discovery and trust my partner's opinion
on the rest of the channels. He is the real videophile here. The
best PQ seemed to be on INHD2 which was showing a movie. I believe
most other posters over the past year use it as their favorite point
of comparison. One last thing about HD, my partner said the PQ on
Direct and Comcast reminded him of that on VOOM before they tweaked
their transmission over the past year.

The SD PQ on both was "garbage" although Comcast seemed to be slightly
better according to him.

So, there you have it! VOOM beats the pants off of two of our major
TV providers in our area. Haven't seen Dish on a similar setup so no
comparison. And you have to have both services just to have 20 HD
channels!

Hopefully, we'll get a single provider (assuming VOOM goes under) who
can provide the PQ and # of HD channels VOOM does currently but I
wouldn't hold my breath.

However, at this point watching HDTV via VOOM under rainy Seattle
skies, Gill

Do not bother to waste your time to see what Dish looks like-it's worse=20
than the other 3

Yep. You can barely tell if they're Klingon or human! Just kidding.
But it is hard to see any detail or facial features.

I compared D*TV,, Mediacom cable, and Dish... to Voom in the past 2 weeks on my new HDTV... no contest VOOM blows them away.
I ran all new RG6 lines before I did the test, even looked better on my 3 27" TV's,

I've compared Comcast's HD to Voom's HD in two different cities (projecting on to 8ft wide screens both times), and Voom's PQ was better - much better, in fact. Comcast's SD was better than Voom's, though.

Never seen Dave's or Charlie's HD PQ.
