[VOOM] New Menber and New to VOOM

I had VOOM installed a couple of weeks ago and for the first couple
of days I had a problem receiving my local OTA channels but I solved
the problem with a little help from the crew at satteliteguys.us. Now
I get my locals better than I was with my other HD STB. Everyone is
coming in at a low of 94% to a high of 99%. I already had a RS
UHF/VHF/FM antenna along with a Winegard PR8800 that I was using for
the last couple of years. I told the installer not to bother with the
one that he was supposed to install (he said I would only receive 2
stations off it). Now I get 1 more that I couldn't receive before (8
total).
I called and cancelled my Dishnetwork last weekend. I had been
subscribing for 5 years. They gave me a pretty good deal back then to
subscribe. A free receiver and install with the first year at $10 a
month. That was Charlie's ploy to get Big Ugly Dish subscribers to go
to his service. I never shut down my BUD and it's still working to
this day but I must admit with the HD on VOOM I haven't turned it on
this last week.

VOOM seems to be better on SD than the other pizza dishes, less compression.
When I've compared SD to the BUD it has done almost as well. Analog with
the BUD is of course a bit better than anything, but the HD on the VOOM
system is indistinguishable from the HDD200. You have the exclusive
advantage of a pure digital connection with the DVI cable with VOOM. I have
discovery HD on both and I really cannot distinguish in a blindfold test
situation. They are both great! Enjoy VOOM!

I just got my Voom installed this morning (18 year BUD user) and I concur. The HD looks as good (so far) as the HDD200 on 4DTV, and the SD (on a 65" display) is pretty darn close to BUD quality. Seems just a little softer, but I haven't done a lot of A/B comparisons yet.
