[VOOM] New pricing...

I finally get approval from my condo board to shed my cable chains
and get a non-penetrating roof mounted satellite dish. It took them
two months but victory is mine at last.

So I go to the Voom site to subscribe and...WHAT THE FVCK?!?!

OLD (reasonable) PRICING: Zero setup costs, $80 a month for Va Va
Voom.

NEW (bend over) PRICING: $300 setup costs, $40 a MONTH in receiver
rental fees, and $90 a month for Va Va Voom.

I'd like to formally extend a lone, proud middle finger to VOOM
corporate. This one's for you, boys. ooIoo

[VOOM] Re: New pricing...

I've been with VOOM since day one, and was disappointed to see the $0
upfront was not extended. Or better yet kept permanently.
Money is never made on hardware or installation fees, I dont know
when that's ever gonna sink in.
I also dont think it was wise raising programming costs so soon
either. This could only slow any momentum VOOM may have had going.
Just my 2 cents

I imagine it was to appease the shareholders who may be leaning towards
cutting their losses way too early in the game.

200.00 bucks to install is just way out of line.

I am hearing a uncomfirmed buzz about another promo coming out....

$49.95 installed.

More as I know it.

Stay tuned to SatelliteGuys.US for more details. :D

[VOOM] Re: New pricing...

Before moving to this townhome condo I'd had DirecTV with two
DirecTivo units and been happy as can be. I was excited about trying
Voom at the old prices, but now...? Forget it.

[VOOM] Re: New pricing...

Stage3a4,
I will probably be leaving VOOM because of an issue other than you
have. But VOOM is still a very good value at $89.95. It won't be if
they don't add core SD channels by Jan 1. I agree the install fee is
not competitive, but if you want HD programming and Unique exclusives
then the monthly fee is not unreasonable. Don't give up on VOOM that
easily. I will be going back to Direct TV, but not because of the
monthly price, maybe becuase of the install fee. If you don't want to
lease, just buy the equipment.

Ahh, but money can be lost on hardware. Let's not overlook that. The
installation cost may be subsidizing that hardware loss to some degree.
Assuming Installs Inc. doesn't have them by the short hairs with some
ridiculously high agreed price for installs.

The current cost per box for HD STBs is still several hundred dollars. The
next generation DVRs will probably still come in at $400 ea or more with
chip integration. I based this on the target of $300-$350 they have already
stated, and assume there will be some overshoot. Takes several years of a
loyal customer to recoup that cost.

To summarize, maybe it's not so much an effort to make money on hardware as
it is to mitigate the losses.

resold on ebay if you leave early or upgrade your equipment.

This policy is stupid because VOOMs obsession for control is only
costing them customers.

[VOOM] Re: New pricing...

Exactly - eliminating my option to sell a used VOOM box means I'll never
buy their equipment, period.

And conversely, they are now raping would-be customers on a per-box
rental fee.

[VOOM] Re: New pricing...

I agree, and I'd subscribe at $89. However, there is an addditional $10
for the first receiver and $15 for each additional receiver. That's an
extra $40 a month for me! And there's no way I'm buying the receivers
without even knowing whether I'll like the service or if VOOM will even
be around a year from now.

They've pretty much left me with no options.

Give it a month or so before u go with another SAT co. im sure that install will drop down. I waited from OCT to MAY for the 0$ deal

just dont get yourself stuck in a 1 yr contract, and stuck with poor PQ, VOOM is worth the wait

IMO

[VOOM] Re: New pricing...

If I had some indication from VOOM that the pricing was about to
change (hint hint Wilt) then I might hang on for a month, MAX.

The rental fee is high, I pay Cablevision $8.40 give or take a few
cents per month to rent two HD STB's. How can the CV STB's be $4.00
or so per month but the VOOM STB cost 9.50 for one ???
