The upside of Voom:
It's great. HD is beautiful, granted Tank might eventually get
boring but it was captivating last night. I'm someone who prefers a
documentary or an educational program to a poorly written sitcom so I
think this is really going to suit me. Not to say I'm not excited
about the Chappell Show or Futurama both of which can be seen with
the Voom package.
It can be easily explained like this-
Comcast basic digital service- $55 add HD and additional $15 and you
get 4 channels. Voom- I'm paying $51.40 that's service, box and
taxes. I'm getting everything Comcast offers less five channels but
with the addition of 35 HD channels.

The down side of Voom:
1.) My installer (not due to lack of trying) could not get OTA
stations. I had a small $20 Radio Shack antenna and I was getting
2,5,7,44. Now with this Cessna wing on my roof I'm only getting 5
and its pixilated. The installer told me to call Voom and explain
and they should upgrade my antenna for free. So I see this as a set
back not a true down side.
2.) I'm somewhat disappointed with the quality of the SD content. I
had digital cable on my old 32" Proscan and it looked great this
picture just looks a little muddy, my girlfriend doesn't think so but
I see it. This might be the TV.
3.) ESPNHD is a huge let down, Yanks/A's were on last night (Yanks
suck), I couldn't even watch it. Not 16:9, the picture looked like my
old Comcast digital service. I'm going to need more HD sports, World
Sport was showing an old soccer match that was amazing, lets see some
NFL,MLB in that definition.

I also have a few questions for the Voom veterans. Is there a way to
hide channels other than 1-100? I would like to scroll the stations
with out looking at all the premiums. Can you have more than one
favorites list? Does the Harmony 659 work with the box?

Conclusion, I love Voom and I'm sure I'll be even happier once my
issues are resolved. I'm now questioning everyone who bashes the
service? Are these people idiots?

Y E S ! ! !

And to answer your question about the Harmony remote, I love mine and it
works flawlessly with my system. I have 4 remotes and prior to getting the
Harmony remote, I had to USE all 4 remotes. Now all my remotes are in a
drawer and I only use the Harmony to watch tv w/volume control on stereo
receiver, watch dvd's and listen to the radio. 1 remote for everything.. how
sweet it is.

Only way to omit any of the sat channels is to set-up a favorites list excluding the ones you don't want to see when surfing. Only one favorites list possible at the present time.

Also new to Voom

I just had Voom installed yesterday. Only 1 out of the 3 receivers was working; I've since got another one up. No OTA channels yet.

I was messing with the Favorites this morning. Is there a way to scroll just the favorite channels. On my previous digital cable remote, each time you hit the FAV button, the channel would automatically scroll through just your favorites without having to go through a guide screen. My 3 and 5 year could operate it. Now with the Voom favorites, my kids would have to navigate through the guide, granted only their favorites would show in the list. That's a bit much for my 3 and 5 year old, let alone my wife :)

Here's hoping your wife doesn't read this e-list! Ouch! :)))
