[VOOM] Voom and a 2nd Service?

Assuming Voom does survive...do most of you have Voom or Va Va
Voom? Do you pair it with another service (ie cable, Dish, DirecTv)

I like the idea of Voom....but I'm trying to make sure that it makes
$$$ sense. I currently have Dish Network's Everything Package with
Nets, Superstations Plus HD Package...for $111 per month (2
receivers)

Any input would be appreciated.

Noah, your question about what service makes sense for you may not for
us because we all have our own favorite channels. We have basic VOOM
+ HBO which costs us $39.95/mt. but we were early adopters and get
HBO as a freebie. This provides all the programming we need although
we are enjoying the free week of Showtime. We have no other provider
except for digital OTAs we get via the VOOM STB. We are not sports
fans so this lack does not bother us but may others.

There are numerous posts on here as well as satguys about what people
think of VOOM's programming. Most of us have it for the HD. In our
case we watch HD almost exclusively.

Good luck in your quest but it you're looking for HD VOOM is it!

Still enjoying HDTV on our newly calibrated projector under mostly
clear (but rain promised tomorrow night) Seattle skies, Gill

I have Va Va Voom and Cable. I had DirecTV but droped it because they only have five or seven HD stations. If Voom doesn't survive i don't know if i would go back to DirecTV or the Dish Network? My cable service doesn't offer any HD stations so i would have to take one of the two DTV or DN.

I have Va Va Voom and Dish. I had dish everything pack, but when voom came out with the free hardware and installation I went with va va voom, downgraded dish to the minimum package to avoid duplication

I Voom does not make it I will probably go with comcast because it offers fair HD content, and you don't have to put out a lot of bucks for receivers or contract comittments

I've got va va voom, directv and comcast basic cable (its cheaper by a few $ for internet this way than to cut the cable).

Between the 3 i'm paying way too much, but I cant cut directv unless i order digital cable because my kid and wife would kill me if i took away noggin and a few other kids channels.

If you like what you have stick with it.. I only tried out voom, because I wanted to see what their hd looked like compared to the cable HD I used to have and to get a free antenna install :).

Don't get me wrong I like voom, but if you have to pair it with another service it quickly loses its luster when you start seeing the combined amount of the bills..

I have DTV for 9 years, they wanted 350 bucks to upgrade to HD, You can guess what I told them.......Then I tryed Dish because they said I'd get all my Local channels.....They Lied. and the PQ was the worst I had ever seen, so I canceled it in 2 days, I have cable and VaVaVoom now. I'm working on getting my Antenna put up higher and installing a Rotator so I can cancel cable also, But I guess if Voom goes tits-up I'll go back to DTV and hope they will wave the HD upgrade charge, Then I'll cry for a few days because Voom is gone.

RE: [VOOM] Voom and a 2nd Service?

I have va va voom and all my local channels are digital (CBS NBC ABC PBS FOX
PAX). I kinda miss the PPV option, but the quality of HD and DD 5.1 is what
I REALLY go for! My wife especially likes the Equator channel. We like
traveling and they have some great programs on "Smart Travels". Sometimes
PBS also airs them (in HD!).

I have Cband 4dtv with the Absolute Programming Package that Netlink offers. I purchased my Voom system in late October 2003 to use as a supplemental package exclusively for the HD content (VaVaVoom). I find myself watching more Voom HD than my 4dtv. So, I suppose now Voom is my primary provider and Netlink is my supplemental provider. I wouldn't want either without the other. If Voom goes belly up, I wouldn't get Dish or Directv, unless they extremely expand their current HD offerings.

Thanks for your response.

I was quoted $49.99 for Voom and $89.99 for Va Va Voom.

You've got a good deal. Am I correct that I would also have to pay
$5.00 per month per receiver?

Yes, Noah, we got a good deal because we were early adopters-read
"beta" testers which was worth it for an exciting new service-so got
the price break. I believe you pay $5/mt. for each additional STB
after the 1st one but I'd just give VOOM a call and find out.

Still enjoying HDTV under clear and likely record high Seattle skies,
Gill

Re: [VOOM] Voom and a 2nd Service?

I have Voom basic and Comcast Cable. I also had DirecTV but dropped it for the same reasons. I have the cable for the HDVR. If Voom adds the HDVR, Comcast is toast. If VOOM doesn't make it I will still have Comcast.

Re: [VOOM] Voom and a 2nd Service?

I dropped Dish for VaVaVoom and have been loving it! I miss the PPV,
but I've got Netflix so it's not a big deal. If Voom goes dark, I'll
probably go with Comcast because they've got more HD than Dish -
including the locals I hear. For 3 receivers and the full package I'm
paying $113 which is about the same as I was paying Dish for one
receiver (I owned 2), count on one hand HD and crummy PQ.

I have Dish Network and I am displeased with Charlie's (CEO Charlie
Ergen) cavalier attitude toward HD. On one of his chats, he said
that he would add HD channels "if and when" there were some with
content worthy of being carried. I don't appreciate that attitude.

I compared the channel offerings of Voom and Dish and realized that
the only Dish channels that I would miss are: the superstations and
Showtime Beyond. To get the HD content and to save $15 a month, I'm
willing to do that.

Assuming the install actually happens and Voom makes it past March
31, I'll be kissing Dish Network goodbye.

------------------------

Noah, do I assume correctly that you have an install date set up with
VOOM? If so make sure to do some research on how to make your install
occur on time and with the minimum of problems. This info can be
found on this forum as well as over on satguys.

Good luck and let us know if you have any questions. It is quite a
ride we're on but we are still really...

enjoying HDTV via VOOM under cloudy but rainless! Seattle skies, Gill
