I also have the Wega LCD but the 50" Model. The "red button" for resolution
does not seem to do anything. I have not tried my VCR yet but it's a S-VHS
so I will be using the S-Video output. Many people have problems with DVI
and I have the supplied cable and will try it.But there are many
compatibility issues with DVI because there are not enough or any
adjustments for the digital signal in the sending equipment. The Bravo D2
and the Momitsu DVI DVD Players have a great range of adjustments.Maybe the
next generation of Mot STBs will have adjustments also.We are just getting
into the DVI thing on an historical basis.

The Voom stb has the common settings like 480p,720p, 1080i. I think the Sony wega has a different native resolution, so there is difficulty match the native resolution of your set.

Sexton,

What do you mean by the "red button" for resolution does not seem to do anything? I have the same set as you (and I love it!) It works well over DVI and the red button does change the resolution of HD outputs: DVI and Component. It has no effect on SD outputs: composite, s-video and coax.

I have that set. Before 6.20 I was using 1080i on the set top box. Now with 6.20 I prefer "Native" mode (all 4 lights flashing) because then I get 720p with the locals that use it.

The set resizes everything to its native, it does better with 720p resizing than it does with 1080i, but with VOOM they "upconvert" everything to 1080i, so the set does well just leaving the STB in 1080i mode.

I'll try it again and see if the red button does something. I'm using component video out. I feel that the Wega LCD is the best buy in HD Displays right now. Plasma has lots of drawbacks and I am one of those that can see the DLP "flicker". DLP chips are not that expensive. They could give us a 3 chip DLP for justa little bit more and ditch the timing/color wheel system that itself is not cheap to make.

I have the Sony Grand Wega LCD KF60-800XBR (i think that's the model number) and it has worked for all resoultions - 720p, 1080i and native. The native resolution is something like 1368x768p (I need to check that number).

I am using the DVI input on the set and am quite pleased with the quality of the picture.

I also see the DLP rainbow flicker and it drove me insane.

I had a plasma for a short time, but it wouldn't allow me to watch 4:3 content without stretching or cropping so I returned it. Just as well because I would have gotten burn-in watching 4:3 content with side bars.

I looked at the many DLP screens but for the price the best picture was the Sony Grand Wega LCD rear projection. It deals very well with brightly lit rooms which was important because I have a big bay window directly behind my sofa which is reflected in the screen. DLP's got washed out during the day and only look good in nearly dark rooms.

The down side of the Sony is that in dark rooms the screen doesn't look black. It isn't gray, as some have described it, but it definitely isn't black. The picture looks best if you leave the room lights on, so that's what we do.

I have the KF-50WE610 and the red button does work using DVI. The only problem that I have is that when I set it to native mode I get snow (sometimes) when changing channels. For that reason I just always leave it in 1080i mode.

[VOOM] Re: Sony Grand Wega LCD

This is my 1st DLP and the 3rd gen chips seem to have corrected the
rainbow effect. I dont see them anyway.
I would have taken another WEGA but the Mrs. said it was way too big.
And wanted the SAMMY... Hey either way I got a new TV ha ha ha
