[VOOM] Tivo & VOOM

Okay, I opened my mouth. My Dad says he'd get VOOM if he could keep his
Tivo.

Is it possible to have TIVO and VOOM? If so, how does it work?

I'm running this setup, it works well. It works better than it did
with Dishnetwork, I don't end up on the remote control help channel
anymore. You'll just need to connect the IR able to the VOOM receiver
to switch channels and connect VOOM's lowdef outputs into TiVo..

Of course if you want to watch in HD you won't be able to pause..

you also won't be able to get local channels on the tivo, unless you choose "Sat and cable" or "sat and antenna" and have analog locals. Tivo will not be able to tune your local channels through the Voom STB.

I'm not so sure about that Astro, my Voom box downconverts to 480 all channels from the coax output to tv... which I use to watch Voom in the bedroom (including local digital channels)... I don't have TIVO and don't know if it has a coax input, but if it does it should work (channel 3 or 4 or whatever)...

The Tivo WILL NOT tune to digital local channels on Voom. You must either set up manual recordings and tune the STB yourself, or use analog sources from cable or an antenna.

Also, just because the Tivo has a coax input/output doesn't mean it can tune to a digital OTA channel. The guide data that Tivo uses for Voom does not include local data.

RE: [VOOM] Tivo & VOOM

Does anyone here have TIVO and have it show the local channels?

I don't think it's available either. I have local cable also (scifi
channel), so I never really even thought about it.

astro... if you run a coax from the Voom output (which is 480 anolog) to the TIVO input and the TIVO is capable of tuning anolog channel 3 or 4, you should be able to get any Voom channel you subscribe to....

voomvoom, let me explain how Tivo service works, since you don't own a tivo. Tivo gets guide data from Zap2It, which only has the Voom national lineup. (100 and above) Tivo will only record a show that it has guide data for. It will not tune to any other channel except 100 and above. You can "trick" the tivo into thinking it is recording an hour of HDNews when you are really recording CSI, but you have to change the channel manually on the Voom STB to do this, simlar to a VCR. Tivo will not tune to "3 or 4".

I suggest going to tivocommunity.com or somewhere similar to research before posting about things you don't know about.

BTW: TIVO WILL NOT TUNE TO A LOCAL DIGITAL CHANNEL.

RE: [VOOM] Tivo & VOOM

Pardon me if you have covered the Tivo recording from this angle, (I'm only
looking at recent emails from the group and not the extended thread on the
web) and it's been months since I had to deal with a Tivo.
BUT...
Is it Ch 99 or 100 that actually will turn on the external AV input on the
back of the Tivo?
I know that when using Voom with a 4DTV, there is a configuration step (at
least on some Tivo's) that asks what satellite system you have.
If you select "other" it has the potential to lead you down the rabbit hole
with Tivo tech support fools. Because most of them will likely tell you that
you cannot use a C-Band Dish (regardless of the fact that you KNOW there
won't be guide data available) BUT, I did see options that listed Birdview,
Drake etc, meaning that they have the software for remote codes (at least
for older C-Band stuff) and they had thought this through (somewhat) so that
they knew some folks would wish to hook up a C-Band (or "Other" dish) to the
external AV inputs.
I know that going through set up is a long term commitment, but have you
hooked it up this way and tried to configure it this way?

If you've been trough this, forgive me. I just still have a sour
recollection of dealing with Tivo "Tech Support" (Dummies) in regards to the
use of the AV inputs and C-Band (or Other dish).
