Really big "exciting" news here (not!)

As long as they say they re not going out of business or transferring to another company. I've got to much invested in this.🙄
Same, have about 4000 titles, been using the service since it's beginning, it was a big part of myself becoming a cord cutter back in the day.

That's the danger with cloud media; do we really "own" it it the streamer goes belly up? Or do we "own" a license to play it as long as it's available?

Owning Physical Media is considered a license also, buying physical media (like a Blu-ray or game disc) is fundamentally purchasing an indefinite individual use license for the intellectual property on the disc, not the underlying copyright itself.

While technically correct, no defunct streaming service is going to come to my house and round up all my physical media.
Agreed, my worry is one day, my 4K Player will go bad, no one will be manufacturing new ones, happened with Laser Discs, will happen sooner or later.

Sad that there will not be a new Physical Media format after 4K discs.

Now show us the room where you have boxes of blue ray players as back ups.😁
I currently use the Panasonic DP-UB9000P1K, but I do have a Sony 7000U still in the box, ready to go.

I remember when my Laser Disc player went bad a few years after the format died, could not get a new one.

I still have a Pioneer DVL-909 LD/DVD player in my stack. Sadly, I lost the AC3 surround decoder that was on some Laserdiscs, so they don't sound a good as they used to.

Or look as good. I have quite a few discs with the dreaded "Laser-Rot", little sparkles in the image where the pits have degraded.

Hmmm, might just have to watch "All that Jazz" now…
