Want to get Dish at a remote location - audit and other concerns

I have family that would like to get Dish Network at a very remote cabin. There is no electric or telephone service from a utility company, nor is cable available.

They are not existing customers, and want to start this account for this cabin only. There are three TV's, one in each bedroom and one in the main room. I want to get one 311 and one 322.

First off, there is no electrical service. The current TV's (using OTA only) are powered off a system of solar panels, deep cycle batteries, and inverters. The Dish receivers will be powered the same way.

Usually, the inverter is turned off when nobody is at the cabin. However, I believe the Dish receivers will lose authorization if they are not powered up for an extended period of time. Therefore, I may have to add a separate, lower powered inverter to keep them on when nobody is there. They will lose authorization, correct?

Another concern is the lack of telephone service. There is cell phone reception, but no land line service. For one, this means that the boxes won't be able to dial out, ever. Will Dish get suspicious and audit the receivers? The cabin is used at least once every two weeks, but not so often that someone would necessarily be present when they want to perform an audit. The cell phone would have to be used as the primary phone number due to lack of landline. And it's not like I could even get a cheap landline plan...the nearest phone lines are over three miles away!

Yet another area of interest is the service address. There is no mailing address for the cabin. Could the home address of the owners be used as the service address?

Also, I'm not sure how far away the nearest installers are. I know Dish won't allow for self-installs, and the nearest installers are probably about 40 miles away. Will that be a problem?

You don't need to leave the receivers on all the time. If you get there and the channels are missing you can call for a rehit. I believe there is a way to do it even without talking to a human.

Dish loves remote locations, that's what it's designed for. If you goto the installer forum and find "Send me a hit now!" thread up top, there's all the info you need to have a hit resent.

When I was out in WV working on Off Air installs when all the distant riff raff hit, everyone had a RR address, customers made up their own streets and address numbers, the only way you could locate them was by find a landline phone (cells rarely worked) and get directions like Go down 7.4 miles you'll see a tall oak tree, turn left go up the windy road you'll pass Fran's red barn another 9.4 miles you'll see a big oak tree, turn right go down 4.2 miles and you'll see my grandpappy's yellow barn, I'm 2.3 miles north of that in the green house with the windmill out front. (seriously)

In other words it can be done, just make up an address or whatever if you have to and make sure the number is listed.

Someone mind PM'ing me the rehit instructions? I'm not an installer so I'm not in the Installer Zone.

It would be great if I didn't have to leave it on all the time...that means I can totally power the place down like usual, which lets the batteries charge better.

The place isn't terribly hard to find, just far out there.

Also, how concerned should I be with audits?

The audit team basically looks for accounts with multiple receivers, like 3 or 4 or more (usually on the higher end, I'd say). In this case, it's only (2) receivers (though (3) tuners), so it's really not likely to be targeted. Tell them up-front that there's *no* landline phone service.

OK, thanks. I'm pretty much hoping it never happens then, because if it *ever* happens, we're in trouble.

That makes me think of another thing too. We're gonna be pretty much stuck with the $5 extra outlet fee on the 322, so are there any disadvantages of getting three 311's? Will Dish lease me three of them (still only 3 tuners), or do I have to go one 322 and one 311?

Here's the instructions, thanks to mkmkmk13

Yeah, you can get (3)three 301/311's, just make sure you talk to the CSR and specify 311's.

You will get hit the same. The 322 wont have the extra receiver fee but will have the phone line fee since it is not hooked up. So your total will be the same each way. Your probually better off going with a 322 because you then be able to use a DPP twin, no switches, less cable, less hassle.
