Welcome Pack

I had an older email from DISH from 2/23/08 that was an offer to upgrade to the "essential" pack for just $3.00 more and get 20 channels. It was sent to me for my aunt's account in my name . At the time she only had the locals + encore pack. I changed her account to this Essential pack ,now the welcome pack that day. Here is the original list of channels that were provided to me in the email.

AMC
Bloomberg
Boomerang
CMT
Comedy Central
Discovery kids ( now the HUB)
Food network
Hallmark
HGTV
History channel
HSN
MSNBC
MTV2
Oxygen
QVC
ShopNBC
TBS
TLC
WE
Weather channel

I am under a commitment, and I was given the welcome pack. :)

You also get the TV Guide Network (which shows quite a few movies) and the Public Interest channels (BYU, C-SPAN, etc). And it may only be temporary but I started getting SyFy a little while back. It is a 120 channel and isn't on Free Preview so who knows if it will stay or go.

I have had the package for two years now along with Encore and NHL Center Ice and I think (at the price) that it is an excellent value.

My biggest objection (and hopefully we'll see it change) is I wish I could add the Multi-Sport package. I don't even care about the RSNs. I'd be happy to pay the price for NBATV, ESPN Classic, Fuel, etc.

Yes I agree the Welcome pack is worth the money if all you want is a few channels and your locals. My Aunt loves it and watches HGTV all the time. Until last May she only had sd locals and I upgraded her to a 211k with external hard drive for a dvr with NO fee and she now gets HD locals on her new hd tv. She is very happy with the Welcome pack +Encore+ 1 cent Cinemax for just 21.50 a month with tax included.

Yea, you can get it if your under a committment. You just have to cry enough about cancelling to someone in Loyalty. Every week I get charged back on 1 or 2 customers who drop down to the welcome back

Nice!, Too bad HD and VH1 Classsics are not included, Id pay 24.99 for something like that! Maybe Dish can win back customers if they can offer better packages.

So whats the deal with this whole thing. What receiver will work and what sat(s) to aim at. Im a FTA guy with cable so this DN is all new to me. Is there a link somewhere which dumbs it all down? Thanks!

you can use really any Dish receiver out there since the only HD channels you can get with this package are your locals (if available)

110/119 would work the easiest with any receiver so a D500 and say a 301/311 would get ya going. If you wanted a DVR you could do a 625 (dual tuner) as example.

I've heard that any freeview channels will be in HD too if that channel is offered in HD. Can anyone confirm this?

I just called Dish to order the Welcome Pack. I was forwarded to a "specialist" who they told me that the Welcome Pack was discontinued about "eight or nine months ago" and they could not even offer it to me because it's no longer in the system. They said my cheapest option is the Top 120 package, which is $39.99 per month without an agreement.

You're saying that the Welcome Pack has been reinstated, so is there something else I need to know or do in order to get this package?

I am sorry that you were given incorrect information regarding this promotion. If you would like to send a PM to me with your account# or phone# I will take a look at your account and assist you with the programming change.
