Got an old Primestar dish that I may can get for FREE, what can I do with this?

Will it work for FTA?

Can I add a motor to it?

What LNB does it need, if I can use it?

Will it give me good or great signal quality?

What's the best or easiest (in your opinion) receiver to buy?

When you add a motor to a FTA dish, does it go from E to W as a 8'-10' mesh cband dish would? Does it know to elevate the dish accordingly?

yes it will work for FTA, you can add a motor if you get as much weight off the dish as possible............

The LNB on it will work but it would be an idea to upgrade the LNB (IMO) to a new low noise model like the Invacom range.

I like and use the Fortec and Traxis DBS 3500 receivers right now, check out our sponsors at the top of the page.

When using a motor the dish and motor are at an angle (Same as your Lat.) when pointed true south, then when you simply motor east and west it follows the Clarke belt exactly. (Just like my avatar)

And that would let me get G10R to SBS6 and all in between?

What do you mean take weight off the motor?

Or would I come out just buying a motorized system from Soudon or not?

Depends on your line of sight of course and where you are but yes!

Have a look at the above link where you will see picture of where a member removed as much of the metal from the behind the dish to make it as light as possible. If its too heavy the motor will not last long!

Or would I come out just buying a motorized system from Soudon or not?

Yes it would be a much faster track to FTA (And they are a GOLD sponsor here) but I would keep the dish and use it for a fixed dish later!

will do, I am on Soudons site now, is this a ok/good/great/or damn good setup and price?

Is this really that hard to put up on a pole in the yard?

You're such a help, thanks, just let me know your opinions on this, cause I am ready to order now!!! :hungry:

That looks like a pretty good deal (on the sadoun setup). I believe there is a review of the Fortec star mercury receiver in the review section

Here it is
http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=67762

I seem to recall that Dr. Hydro got a "once in a lifetime" deal on his :>

I would also get a compass (to figure out where you need to point the dish).

Other than that and cable you should be pretty well set

hey pete... i think someone should make a sticky with all the links
that mention the primestar projects.. just to make it easyer to find..
thanks
john
