We have a 1000.2 attenna for 2 receivers. A VIP622 (an HD) and a 522. Since my children have moved out, we would like to bring the 522 up to the cabin to view on the weekends. Do we need to buy another 1000.2 attenna - or will a cheaper one work (one that does not use HD). Also - is it ok to do this?

If there is nothing on 129 besides HD that you will watch at the cabin, you can get away with a Dish 500 for most of the sd channels. Dish does not allow this as they consider it "Account Stacking" should you leave the receiver at the cabin full time and Dish will shut the cabin receiver off if they catch you. Dish wants you to get a separate account for it.

A dish 500 would be fine for a 522. There is no point in having 61.5 or 129 since its not a HD receiver. That being said, yes it is technically against dish rules to have receivers at multiple locations under one account. Most people on this forum will readily take a receiver with them to their cabins and such if they travel there but do not plan on staying and leaving the receiver there. Since you can only watch tv in one location at a time this makes sense.
