What does "gant/gant chart) mean ????

wtf is "gant" or "gant-chart" .
None of my dictionaries know what it means clearly .
I guess it is a delivery schedule / plan. But where does this expression come from?

It's actually spelled Gantt, named after Henry Gantt. Here is an example of what they look like. The purpose of the chart is to clearly show the progression of the project, projected start and finish dates, as well as dependencies (or lack thereof) between tasks.
