What does Vista do better than xp?

It is just a matter of time, for better or worse everyone will be on Vista since in 3 more years 90% of the computers will have been replaced (Vista already almost a year old). It is not the disaster that Windows ME was, but it really only seems to be an issue since XP is working so well.

Scary thought is that MS wants to have a Vista replacement in less than 3 years to get more money for updating.

For those of you bashing Vista because of DRM, have you experienced this yourself? Most of the original stories about Vista's performance being lousy just because of DRM have been debunked. There is a pretty decent article here that describes some of it...

» Everything you’ve read about Vista DRM is wrong (Part 1) | Ed Bott’s Microsoft Report | ZDNet.com

The points seem logical that the DRM code in Vista really only gets initiated when you are watching protected content.

I personally don't have Vista at home yet, because I haven't built a new machine for about 4 years and I don't think it's worth it to "upgrade" an existing machine to Vista if you are already running XP. I test with it at the software company I work for, and if I leave all the new graphics options enabled, it is definitely slower then XP. But disabling all of it helps and the performance is close to XP for the apps I test.

yes , I have , Vista is crap for money & also Crap for FREE

I've used 3 different version and they all suck if you do the things listed in my above post

Vista... DRM.... = "lan is now unconnected" , perfect for those who DOn't DOWNLOAD NOTHING , RIP CD or DVD, or use file sharing sites , other than that is great for looking at websites:rolleyes::rolleyes::mad:

i just dont see it. I am using Vista Home premium, and I CONSTANTLY have a bittorrent client running, i use Limewire occasionally if I can't find a song to download on one of my pay sites I use, and I have 58 DVD's ripped, and 25 xbox games, all ripped to my vista laptop. Never have had a problem with any of it.

hmm thats wierd , what about Mininova.org , thats the one that gave the Most problem . alot of Private seems to do okay ( for what little I have tested it) as far as not throwing off the net , public trackers are a different story . Nice to hear your not having torrent issue:up:)

No issues with Vista for me doing everything i want it to do, and now one NEW thing i like that i discovered last night, dumping pics from my new digital camera into the computer, it automatically created a folder for the date, and i could tag the pics with a name as well, that Vista did automatically, havnt even loaded the camera software yet, it was quick and easy.. now all the pics are labeled "Halloween 2007 001, 002 etc).

Nothing earth shattering but a nice feature thats not in XP or Windows...

So are you saying that anyone who has vista can't do any of these things? I find that a little hard to believe. Are you using versions of the software that is compatible with Vista? Was Vista installed on the machine when you bought it, or did you install/upgrade it yourself?

Vista asks a lot of annoying questions... "do you really want to do this" (not a direct quote but as an example ;) )only thing worse would be 2 more windows... "are you sure?"

To turn this annoying feature off...

Open Control Panel
Click User Accounts
Click User Accounts again
Click Turn User Account Control On or Off
Select Off

There you have it! No more pesky questions if you really want to install something.

I have Dell laptop with Vista Ultimate that I purchased thru the company that I worked for as a Network Specialist it needs a faster hard drive (7200RPM) as well as least 2gigs of ram which I had installed. Xp has it days numbered because of the money hunger Microsoft who thinks we have money to upgrade every couple of years. There are companies still running NT and 98 so figure that out Microsoft and give us quality not quantity of software.

I use the client from Bittorrent ver 5.0.9.... I use the torrent search bar in Firefox using Piratebay most of the time.
Also, I use DVD Decrypter, and DVD Shrink
Haven't had a problem with any of it.

Vista is perfect, for those that wish to have a pretty graphic interface, which is bigger and in a way goofier. The whole interface is kindof funky really, that thumbnail thing was messed up thats for sure... ke[pt on getting RUNDLL errors.. which reminded me I was using a microsoft product... sad that the error msgs are a constant reminder of how unrealiable it can really be... hmmm sounds like a sterdy system
