I never used the SlingTV app, so I don't know. But I doubt it. I can view it (obviously) on my H3 or Joeys. I think I can also view it on DishAnywhere. But I must confess I never tried that since my 722 days.
I like tablo . The tuner gets channels that tuner on tv set missed. Most smart tv has the tablo app available. I use both amazon fire stick and roku stick +. I just got the roku speaker that has a roku built in because the tv speakers failed on my 12 year old tv. One tablo will play on any tv you have in the house as it just sends wifi to all your roku or similar aparatus. With channelmaster you need a player for each tv as it is connected to your hdmi.
No, that's just a tuner. Transcoding doesn't happen unless you're Slinging (and watching the Slinged content, which is transcoded).
What is the definition of ota set top box? All I know is the Tablo is a tuner and also a DVR. It has hard drive . I operate it with roku or firestick and can get sling tv or about anything else that is on the internet. I am not too computer literate but know thw tablo is not a satelite receiver. Tablo is for tv antenna stations that are over the air and works just fine for me.
I have a Orby Satellite system - the receiver works great for OTA even when NOT connected to a satellite - just the antenna. Program Guide good for 5 days out. Can often find the receiver on sale for $50.

That's the one I was going to mention. I had one for a few years until lightning took it out and it worked very well. Can't beat the price either.
