Just installed a replacement 722. On my old one I had all episodes of a show grouped under Master name. Where do I go in the menu to do that on my new 722?

You go into where your recorded program are and look at an option to Group your recordings.

Are you talking about the EHD or the DVR? On the EHD (Extended Hard Drive) there is no setting for grouping or the ordering of shows. Changing the receiver should have no effect on the EHD....
However, when more than one same program is recorded, on either the Receiver itself or the EHD it should group automatically....

If you are talking about making a group - like "DAD" "MOM" etc... then there is a setting for that in My Recordings.

Changing how the recorded program display on the My Recordings on your DVR WILL--DOES affect the external HDD. In other words, however you have set your recordings to display on the DVR, will also be how they display on the external HDD. So, if you want the external HDD to display recordings a certain way, you MUST go to the DVR; set-up the display (Alpha, date, etc.) the way you want; then go to the external HDD and they will display as desired.

I don't like that either. It really is irritating, but that's the way it is. Hey, in the beginning the external HDD didn't even display using the folders while the DVR did. External HDD displaying in folders was added in a software update some time ago. I would love for the external HDD to have more independent controls. Let's hope Dish get around to it, but I doubt it.

Looks like you have to have at least 2 episodes of the same show on the DVR to make the grouping work. As I said I just installed the replacement 722 this afternoon and at that point I had no programs stored on the dvr. My ols 722 started over heating. After being on for about 1.5 hours the temp would reach 145F and it would lock up and I would have to unplug it. At least this gave me enough time to move everything off the internal HD to my EHD. So this first time I went to the EHD, every thing recorded was sorted individually by date. Now that I have 2 episodes of a show on the internal HD, Everything on both the internal and external hd's are sorted.
