It's February, and this former Mega March Madness sub is starting to get antsy. An SD NCAA tourney game would be a huge step back for D*.

:up - in my area, it & MANY other national HD's are on THREE other local providers here (DISH, U-verse & Comcast)
It's totally appalling...

I wasn't even aware that TruTV was even broadcasting in HD at this point in time. As long as D* adds it for MM, I will be happy. Other than that, I find the SD feed a waste of bandwidth as it is :P

I can tell you that I haven't seen Tru HD on Dish (my house), Comcast (multiple homes with two different channel line ups), or FiOS (parents' house). My sister used to get the now defunct Adelphia, which had more options in HD before Comcast took over and dumped a bunch, and still no Court TV/Tru TV in HD then either. I don't think it's DirecTV in this situation.

Dish has had it for quite some time.

I wouldnt worry about TruTV HD...just tune to the SD version and hit the stretch button on your remote. Thats what everyone watching the HD version sees.

Erm, you missed the whole NCAA tournament angle.

Not I, but I am waiting to see if they can:
1) Get some HD gear to actually shoot the games in HD with
2) Actually get some teams to cover the games with

If they are down to the usual TruTV standards, its gonna be as bad as the games not being shown. While I am glad that the games are all going to be broadcast, I have extremely low expectations of some of the coverage and hope that I am pleasantly surprised, just trying to be realistic about what to expect, however.

No, I'm assuming that because CBS has been able to successfully broadcast every game in HD in the past, that this will not change. The new tournament only adds one additional site.

TruTV or not TruTV, in and of itself, doesn't change this all that much. It's another outlet that HAS HD CAPABILITY (despite the lack of content). It *should* have the games that are assigned to it in HD.

While I realize that CBS could handle it, we are talking TruTV here, not CBS. TruTV is a Turner station and, in turn, is a TW station. Having been familiar with "Turner Trash" since the 1960s/70s (WTCG-OTA/channel 17, Atlanta) and the low "standards of excellence" that TW/AOHell have managed to make of their stations since that time, I feel certain they will find a way to blow this one. 40 years of setting expectations lower and lower each year have reinforced these feelings, just like Pavlov's dog. :D

If CBS does everything including sending the feeds to the uplink sites, I still feel that in some way TW will manage to screw up the broadcast. :(

I was just as skeptical as you were, when TBS got the MLB playoffs. They've done a pretty reasonable job there. Maybe I'm naive, but I would be SHOCKED if something blatantly stupid happens here, aside from D* continuing to drop the ball on national HD negotiations.

the games will be produced in HD, because it will just be using the same equipment TNT/TBS will use for MM and their pro sports. Turner Sports provides the best quality of sports broadcasts on cable tv as it is.

Why the #$^#^#$^% do you think DIRECTV will add this by the time of the NCAA tourney ?

What the #$^#^#$^% is a huge step back for DIRECTV supposed to mean ?
It's not like they'll lose any subscribers over this.

First question - it's more a commentary on where D* is currently with adding HD national channels, despite excess available capacity. They're dropping the ball.

As for the "step back" I'm referring to, it's pretty easy. I'm a multiple-year Mega March Madness sub. Maybe I'm spoiled, but I'm used to the availability of every game, in HD, for the whole tournament. Going back to viewing SD games, mostly because D* won't negotiate for carriage, is a "step back."
