Good Morning all,
I am looking to get started up in a basic mode. Just needed some input on a good FTA reciever that is not too tough to set up. I was going to use an old Dish Network dual element dish. Any help and suggestion will be appricated. Scott...

My most recent purchase of a Fortec Mercury II was from ebay, at $22 + $10 shipping . That is an excellent FTA receiver. A small dish , though, is not going to get very much programming. I'd recommend you pick up a 90cm dish ( 36") and linear lnbf from one of our sponsors and get a lot more programming. If you get an ebay bargain on a receiver , you still might get by under $100 total.

[edit] For your info, when I started out, I thought I was going to save money and use my "leftover" Directv Phase III dish. I soon found out it's limits and spent a little money at Sadoun for a motorized 80cm system. Now I have two motorized dishes, and am looking around the area to acquire a larger dish or two. A freebie would be just what I need to start the spring out right.

I picked up a lava 3200 (pansat clone) for $2 on ebay. Look around a bit and you can find great deals on eBay.

Brent is right though, nothing much on dish anymore.. it was a great time when music was all FTA, but those times are gone now. You can either look around the neighborhood and see if you can score a primestar dish from a neighbor for free, or pick up one of those 3ABN dishes for $50 shipped, if you need to save cash and still have a big enough dish.
