Why does EchoStar want your SSN?

DISH now requires a social security number on all customers now FACT.
You can only be a new customer once FACT
You can change your address, you can change your phone number, you can even change your name.

WHAT NUMBER CAN'T YOU CHANGE?

Why is it not possible ???? There has got to be laws against them keeping it on file . Today when you pay for something with a check they can't ask you to put your SSN on the check .
