I'm wondering why there is 1 Dish forum while DTV has 4? Is DTV that bad it needs 4 forums to discuss all the problems? Well to be fair I should call it 3 forums since the "Cutting Edge" forum is deader than a doornail, zero posts for a year and a half. No cutting edge I guess? Might be time to stick a fork in it. :tombstone

Pretty Bored ???

Quick look shows posting in all the D* forums TODAY ...

All DISH stuff is easier in one forum.

For DIRECTV we were asked by them to have separate forums which we have done for them. Cutting Edge is alive and well, just because your not seeing posts does not mean its dead. Just means you are not in one of the groups doing testing on things currently. You will see from time to time them look for additional testers for things.

We also run Testing forums for DISH, however you can't see them as you are not one of their testers.

We work with both companies in order to make their products better for all. Something I am proud of. :D

We have the IPTV forum where Sling TV and DIRECTV Streaming is talked about... but as you see not much to talk about there. It works or it doesn't.
The IPTV area has seen posts, sometimes multiples, by 5 different members, not including myself, in the last two days.

The DirecTV General Forum has not seen a post since Monday at 2:50pm, in a thread that has not seen activity since March, before that post, last Thursday it had some activity in a different thread.

Most of the activiity in the DIRECTV side of this site concerns Cutting Edge Testing and the Weekly updates to the transponder maps in the Technical Respources subforum. The activity in the Cutting Edge forum is not visible to users who are not members of the group, just as we cannot see the activity of the people testing DISH network software. We welcome any DIRECTV satellite customer who wants to test and find problems with pre-release STB software to join the Cutting Edge group, if they are willing to sign an NDA with DIRECTV.

Unfortunately, the opportunity to test new satellite receiver hardware probably doesn't exist anymore. DIRECTV is focusing on Internet delivered content for the future.

That's too bad for rural customers that don't have reliable high speed internet. I suppose Starlink can help with that though.
High speed broadband is nice, but not necessary for adequate streaming. We're currently at a somewhat remote NY state park in NY's Southern Tier. We've been streaming continuously since about 7:30 this morning (rainy day). So far, we've had just a few seconds of buffering during a commercial. Here's our current speed test results:

Rural customers in a lot of areas can get decent internet. My dad's lake house is 20 miles from town and a year or so ago the cable company ran fibre on the road we are on. It's a podunk company (SCI Broadband) but has up to 1GB options.

Edit:dang. For humor I looked at DSL option and CenturyLink
use to be a blazing 1.5MB (woo hoo). Now they can do 30 MB. But the fibre price is the same for 100 Mbps download ;)

Edit 2: OMG! When I lived in my house a decade plus ago the fastest DSL was 1.5 and we were in town right by the mall.
Today's speed according to CenturyLink is STILL 1.5

I understand. However here in New Mexico there are many areas that are "underserved" though. Even some of the popular vacation spots around here lack cell phone coverage much less high speed internet. Or internet in general. Even crappy DSL would be an upgrade.

Im not saying that everyone is covered. It's a lot better than say 5 years ago with much better options that have no limit of how much you use and have faster speeds.

I understand but... Again, it depends on where you are located. Some areas are no better now than at the dawn of the internet in the 90's. Native American communities/reservations in the southwest US for example. Although promised for decades they have little or nothing to show for it. Unless now they can afford Starlink or similar, which many cannot. DTV or Dish Network is often the only connection to civilization. That and AM radio which is also under attack.
