Why?

I've wondered why a place in the outskirts that has electricity can't get fiber. The polls exist and running a straight shot fiber line has to be easier and cheaper than a whole city build out.

Electricity is a mandated utility, just like landline phone service. They have to provide it to everybody. Broadband is not.

Actually it's growing again
Another post by Juan, where he will never post evidence that what he is posting is true, then he will double down, while still being incorrect, after that, will run from the thread.

here-

AT&T customers who still use the carrier's landline service should be prepared to say goodbye sometime in the next five years.

At its 2024 Analysts and Investors Day on Wednesday, the company said that it's "actively working to exit its legacy copper network operations across the large majority of its wireline footprint by the end of 2029." Yep, that means its traditional landlines will largely be gone by that point, at least if the roadmap comes true.

Yes, landline phone service is declining due to various factors, including the rise of mobile phones, advancements in technology, and the cost of maintaining outdated infrastructure. Telecom companies are phasing out copper-based networks in favor of more efficient and cost-effective solutions like VoIP and fiber-optic services.

Well, maybe then AT&T will finally replace our copper with fiber optics. I've been waiting for many years, they stopped fiber deployment about a block from our house.

Not as much profit, if you run a Fiber or other line miles out to a road and it only has a few people on it.

There are three fiber companies installing here. All three of them were ordered by the city to stop work. Apparently the contractors they were using were causing a lot of property damage. Everything from severing water, sewage, natural gas lines etc. to digging up people's yard and not finishing the job. That was a few weeks ago and I think they are back in compliance now. In fact, I saw workers with metal detectors marking in the street in front of my house yesterday.

The Fiber Companies wouldn't be doing the spotting, it would be the companies that do line spotting.
The same ones that spot the underground Power and Gas and Cable and Water and anything else that get buried.

Public Utilities.

May I point out that traditional landline is a subset of landline. Traditional landline is copper based. Landline includes not only that but also VOIP. It could turn out that both of you have a sense of correctness in your posts.

FWIW - I have both a copper based landline and a VOIP landline (as well as two cellphones) in my household.

I know, but I don't think the fiber companies were calling before they dug. Which obviously is a big no no. Hence the city calling for a stop work.

BTW - ALL the utilities are underground in my neighborhood. There are no overhead services.
