Will a bare RG-6 wire work ?

My connector (f6) came off end of cable that connects to barrel that leads to switches on receiver. Sticking bare end into barrel gives me no satellite signal at all. Should a bare rg-6 wire at least work enough to get a signal or does it need the connector (f6) ?

Don't think it'll work, because the center wire makes half of the connection, and the braid/connector threads make the other half.

Both parts must be connected.

Both muse be connected as there is power that also travels on the wire as well.

I is really not very hard to reattach the plug / replace the plug - any thoughts of doing that ?

You can purchase RG6 F connectors which simply twist on. Just skin back the outer insulation to expose the shield, fold the shield back and twist on the connector. There are several places to purchase these, Lowes, Wallyworld, Radio shack etc.
