Will a D* STB scan for local cable channels?

Sorry if this has been answered before, I couldn't find it by searching.

By putting a local cable line into the ANT jack on the back of a D* box, can you do a scan for locals? I just have a basic cable "lifeline" of just the SD networks.

Not on the ANT jack. The HTL-HD offers cable scanning but not Digital cable, as you would guess. I think it goes up to like 130 channels. The connector is also clearly labeled "cable."
 
Same with the Samsung SIR-TS160. It has OTA, cable, and satellite inputs. You can end up having quite a few entries in your program guide for one channel, especially if you get the OTA signal via analog, DT-HD, and a DT-SD subchannel. :) IIRC, it has a place where you tell it whether you have "basic" or "expanded" cable, which I guess is intended to map channels correctly or something, though I don't remember that I ever saw program data actually show up in the guide for the cable channels.
