I wonder if Dish will be able to add some of these channels that Direct is claiming they will be able to add. These would be some main questions that folks should ask at the CES Show will Dish be able to add more HD. If Dish does plan on adding more channels what channels would they be. I would like to see the channels below added. It seems Dish has mention staying the HD Leader is important so what are they going to do to keep it that way.

The Sci-Fi Channel, CNN, The Weather Channel, The Cartoon Network, Speed, FX, TBS, USA Network, the NFL Network, the YES Sports Network and all premium movie networks

DIRECTV: 100 HDTV Channels In 2007
The satcaster says it has carriage agreements with 60 channels.
By Phillip Swann

CES (January 8, 2007) -- DIRECTV says it plans to offer 100 High-Definition TV channels in 2007 -- and it has already secured carriage agreements with 60, including CNN and The Sci-Fi Channel.

The high-def expansion is expected to take place in mid-year when the satcaster's two new satellites are operational.

DIRECTV says the new HD channels will include high-def versions of several well-known networks, including those owned by NBC Universal and Time Warner's Turner Networks.

CNN's Paula Zahn will soon be in high-def.

The HDTV additions will include: The Sci-Fi Channel, CNN, The Weather Channel, The Food Network, The Cartoon Network, Speed, FX, TBS, USA Network, the NFL Network, the YES Sports Network and all premium movie networks.

TVPredictions.com has learned that DIRECTV officials have been meeting with numerous cable networks over the last few months to arrange the high-def agreements.

"Where the world is going is into HD. None of the wireless products is going to bring you 100 channels of HD," Eric Shanks, executive vice president of entertainment for DIRECTV, told Reuters.

David Hill, DIRECTV's president of entertainment, told TVPredictions.com late last year that the satcaster would have at least 40 national high-def networks in mid-year.

Yep, Charlie and EchoStar could be in trouble if they cannot match this latest broadside from DirecTV!

It's a broadside of BS. I'll believe it when I see it. They never delivered on last year's promises.

Dish and Directv premium channels

I will believe this when I see it, but for right now, DISH has quite a few more premium channels than DTV just in the SD channels .. if you put the lineups side by side DTV is missing about 8 premium SD channels, and some good ones too like Showtime Beyond for example. DTV doesnt have STARZ HD, their current HD lineup is pathetic, what they do have is the NFL rights although only a portion of the games are HD and they charge out the wazoo for that service.

Glad to see the war heating up again though, Why we can't have Cinemax HD now? Voom had it. I have both DTV and Dish HD DVR's (Voom never got their DVR to market) but even with both services I am still waiting for an HD picture as good as Voom was delivering. the market needs some stimulus for sure.

Another point on DTV. Penn Sen. Arlen Specter is trying to sabotage the NFL's limitation of their football packages to single providers like Sirius and DTV. I hope (but seriously doubt) he can put an end to the NFL's monopolistic dictatorship. Fans are getting totally ripped by the NFL.

Maybe by the time Directv actually launches some HD channels Dish will have figured out how to provide extra HD content.

Directv will be the leader for a while, then Dish will probably be the leader again unless Directv has enough bandwidth to offer EVERYTHING that is and will come available.

Does E* had the bandwidth available now, or even during 2007 to add all these channels in addition to all the RSN's that they said they would be adding plus more LIL HD channels? If they did why haven't they at least added Cinemax-HD now?

Not to mention there aren't even 100 national HD channels. It'll be interesting to see how they get 100 National HD channels when there are only about 50 that exist. (that's a wild guess too...somebody should count them..including the ones D* is in "negotiations" with.)

The big ones on the list for me are Sci-Fi (for Battlestar Galalctica) and FX (for The Shield and Rescue Me). But as far as I know, those channels not only don't exist, but there aren't even plans for them in HD. If there were, based on D*'s announcement, you'd think they'd have *something* up on scifi.com or fxnetwork.com. Like others have posted, this is definitely a believe-it-when-I-see it...

Apparently, it didn't, except in the D* marketing department.

- - -

First, there was HD.

THEN, we brought you HD-Lite!

NOW, we bring you entire "HD" channels with nothing but uprezzed STRETCH-O-VISION!

Talk is cheap and for now D*'s claim for 100 HD channels is just that......talk. I will believe it when I can actually see (or know for a fact) these HD channels are being broadcast. I have E* and I have to admit i did get excited about the HD RSN's which were supposed to be coming "soon" (that was late last summer). I assumed that was a "realistic" expectation because D* and cable have my RSN in HD. Well it doesnt sound like E* is any further along with the HD RSN's than they were last year and maybe further behind due to problems with negotiations.

D* and E* can talk all they want about more HD programming but until they flip the switch and I can get these channels on my HDTV its all talk no action.

Weather Channel in HD.... who cares!! "Gee, that red low and the blue cold front over the Plains looks so crystal clear......."

IMO TWC is worthless except for the "Local on the 8's." Lots of gabbing about nothing and LOTS of commercials.....
